All of you who own or have owned an Ishapore rifle know that they thend to break extractor springs often. Well, I just bought one and, the spring is broken. I have looked all over the internet, and found various sources of .303 extractor springs, but none for the .308. Are they interchanglable? If not, where can I find them?

Also, is the rear upper handguard interchangable between the .303 and .308?

i believe they are i broke both the extractor and the spring when my chamber was gunked up i got them from numrich i thin it was like 10 bucks for both i thin the spring is interchangable but not the extractor

not sure is yours broken? or does it have the two repairs/reenforcements

what did you pay for your rifle? im wondering what they go for now i got mine 2 years ago in mint condition

Well, for the price I could just buy an extractor spring and see if it fits, I'll also probably get a .308 extractor.

I busted the rear upper handguard when taking apart the rifle.... (My fault)

I payed $200, it is in good condition, covered in cosmoline. I still need to clean the cosmoline off most of the metal parts; I only removed cosmoline from the inside of the barrel and chamber, and the entire bolt. Also reduced the large buildups in the action but for now I havn't to tools to remove it well.

Same spring. Gunparts wants $7.35 each.
"...rear upper handguard interchangable..." Should be. Gunparts lists 'em under the No. 1 Mk III. Not exactly cheap at $18.35 for a hardwood guard though.

i would try to get an actual 2a hand guard so the wood would match better i believe the indians are made of mahagony

Another question; is removing cosmoline from the entire rifle necessary before shooting (safety of self and rifle wise). I have cleaned the barrel and chamber, and the bolt has no cosmoline; will I be safe putting a few rounds down range?

Should be safe to try it out as long as you get all the gunk out of the barrel and the action. And as far as I know, the extractor springs are the same on the .303 and .308. Also, when you put it in you have to be careful to not break it.
If you look at the spring it looks like a "V" with one leg shorter. Put the shorter leg in first with the little bump on it in the hole in the bolt face where it seats. You'll know what I mean when you look at it. Anyway, put that end in first and then use something to carefully push the bottom end into the bolt until it snaps into place.
