Charges Filed in Boy's Accidental Death

The whole event sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Take a bunch of yankees that have never fired guns very much, put them in tight quarters, provide a 15 year old "instructor", and then give a nine year old full auto weapons... Outstanding plan!

I'd say losing your own son and living with it forever is punishment enough.

What is sad is the fact that the Club is now in jeopardy because of two bad decisions by two children.

I feel bad for everybody. My wifes family has a friend who was killed at a golf course due to horsing around. But for some reason when a gun is involved with a death, lawyers are in the wings.
 
The charges sound a little overzealous in their scope and breadth. However, it sure sounds like somebody was criminally negligent.

Of course not, but I bet they find that there was gross negligence involved and hence involuntary manslaughter.

The father was not charged because he was a layman and based his decision on information from others who should have known it was too dangerous, Bennett said. The 15-year-old boy who was supervising Christopher with the Uzi also will not be charged, he added.

Sounds about right to me. Idiots like these give the antis more ammo to use against us. Those people belong behind bars. People need to show we are responsible as a culture not just individually
 
It was an accident ... a very tragic accident. However, "club officials" should have been overseeing the event to insure that what was being promised was provided (i.e. certified instructors).

The father may not have known the characteristics of the micro-Uzi, but the "certified" folks sure should have, and with that said they should not have let someone of the boy's age/stature select that type of gun for firing.

Malice? I don't think so. Stupidity (poor judgment)? Yes, I believe so. Manslaughter, not murder.

Club's liability? That finding should depend on how much oversight the club had over the event, and/or if the people putting on the event made changes in staffing without informing the club.

Are you saying it is just crazy that an 8 year old was handed a micro uzi or crazy that anyone allows 8 year olds to handle firearms in general?

This is a tragic incident. Hopefully both the boy's family and the club can someday recover to some extent.
