So much for neutral reporting. I thought they were gonna give the pro's a come back in the last 30... no.

My brother claims that national geographic isn't biased and that they are reporting facts about guns, LOL he must be a anti-gunner.

He had a semi automatic machine gun...

Wow...didn't know something that shot semiautomatic could shoot full auto at once..is that like....2 barrels, one fires semi, the other fires full with no selector? :neener:

really makes you wonder about the veracity of the last 30 years of their magazine content.

"...But unfortunately, people have the right to own guns. And they're going to exercise that right." -Officer DeCoatsworth.

It's...something. There's enough believable half-truths to make it seem unbiased to those who aren't gun enthusiasts, with the anti propaganda cleverly disguised, but there in full force.

There's quite a bit of anti gun bias and they use anti propaganda like kellerman's revised but still totally flawed "gun in the home is 22 times more likely" junk.
Agreed on castle doctrine error.
Cool machine gun shoot footage :)

One thing to think about however...
If it's supposed to be neutral, they have to show both sides, but consider:
1. The anti-gun side doesn't use facts since facts aren't on their side, so they come up with outrageous false claims. It's irritating to gun owners because we know the truth, but besides lies what does the other side have?
2. The criminal use of guns is more glamorous in terms of TV ratings so they'll show more of it. Most people don't want to see a young girl learning how to shoot safely and responsibly from her daddy, that's boring. They want to show gang members growling and spraying bullets in a spectacular and inaccurate fashon.
I almost shed a tear on the "The ATF destroys over 19,000 guns each year" part! The gun didn't commit the crime. I won't break a lightbulb if it turns on when I flip the switch.

The whole show was anti-gun, glad I didn't record it. My brothers convinced it wasn't biased and we got into an argument about it, I stated that the entire show was to conceive the only possible reason anyone should have a gun is hunting, target shooting or self defense, and even then, the show was critical on self defense when they talked about the castle doctrine and the "risks" associated with owning a gun with the bogus statistics.

The main concept I got from the show is "gun owners are a minority", heck they said it in the show right and that criminals are getting their hands on guns because they steal them from law abiding citizens therefore we are the source of the problem, therefore we should reduce crime so the cops "who protect us" can be safer.

Yep that's how I sum it up

It was definitely anti-gun, don't kid yourself for a minute.

About what I expected from National Geographic.

There's an hour I wont get back.

Anti firearms, anti 2nd amendment, anti defending yourself and loved ones BIG TIME!!!

Some gems off the top of my head...

"Every 2 days a child dies of an accidental shooting..."

I am sorry for kids that pass before they have had a life, however, how many kids die in vehicle accidents each year? An obvious punch at the heart to distract the mind of the weak.

My favorite:

"...unfortunately they have that right."

Said by a police officer shot in the face by a criminal making a reference about the 2nd amendment and firearms. I have the UTMOST respect for the difficult job of law enforcement, and those that have the ability to perform that duty, for I could NOT do what they do, so DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A SLEIGHT AGAINST LEO'S. However, that statement is yet another blow at the emotions rather than brains.

Totally bias liberal propaganda and I was disgusted after watching the program.

I am going to write NG a letter voicing my displeasure about their biased program and recommend others do the same.

Your name is Old Fuff, but i didn't know you were that old.

Little Sammy Colt would have never dreamed up that repeating pistol of his if I hadn't given him some pointers... :what: :D

My wife and I watched it and were not impressed.

This show was obstensibly about America's gun culture, but it spent about half the episode blending America's Criminal Culture into the mix.

I await the next episode which will detail the 1st amendment, and America's free speech culture. Interspersed with the noble calling as the "fourth branch of government" and our right to free political speech, I expect to see the other half the episode revolve around skinheads, neo-nazi's, and the crisis of internet pornography.

And for dramatic effect an internet crime cop will shrug his shoulders saying,

But unfortunately, people have the right to free speech. And they're going to exercise that right.

I've been listening to this crap for longer than most of you have been alive. You're not going to get a balanced presentation re guns, hunting, et al. I refuse to waste my time watching that garbage.

I find it sad that so many inaccuracies were said. Its hard for anyone to really have a understanding of something like firearms when most of the media doesn't do a good job accurately portraying firearms and firearms laws. I guess all we can do is help the people we know better understand firearms, and teach our children what we know.

there were so many factual irregularities in that show, it made me constipated. the whole thing sounded like it was scripted by the Brady Campaign.

I thought it was alright. My mother (anti) watched it with me and I explained a few things in more depth about machine guns and such. I like how they added the part about the lady because my mother realizes that bad things can happen and I think she is a little less anti since she didn't know much about guns besides that they are bad.

I didn't like how it was more about criminals with guns than actual gun owners though...

It was disgusting, I don't think I am going to give them anymore of my ratings. Just wrote them a letter of dissatisfaction. I liked some of their older stuff but, I just can't allow myself to support them anymore :/.

I'm going to dissent here a little bit. Maybe it's just because I'm so appetized with "Bowling for Columbine" stuff this seems so much better.

They did actually let the pro-gun people speak, played their entire comments, and didn't try to trash them. They showed good people recreating and using guns in a positive way, which is more than most of the media attention we get. They quoted the bogus Kellerman stats, but they backed way off their normal claim that a child is killed with a gun once every five minutes, or something to that effect, to once every two days. I honestly think that someone probably got yelled at for failing to check the Kellerman stats after the fact, because even the Bradys quit using it years ago.

They could have EASILY found more pro-gun cops to speak out, rather than giving the anti cop the last word. (They DID have the comments from the old cop who said that there were so many guns out there, new laws aren't going to change anything.) I do feel that they left it with an overall tone that guns are here to stay, the momentum of current legislation is in favor of guns, and that not every gun and every user is evil.
