Totally Understand

Ya, I kinda expect some frame wear. Two of my Sig's have shown frame wear from use. You should expect wear when you have a steel slide working on a alloy frame rail, but that finish...that finish...leaves a lot to be wanting!

:cuss:

a shame

My carry 9 just didn't work out with a darn. 3 times back, then peddled it. I really liked that gun to but it just did not like me. guess that happens.

My Kimber cost well under $1000 and my STI cost a bit over which puts them in the same general price range. The difference is that my guns work!

I've always wanted a Warthog since they first came out but I think I'll get another STI instead. It's the customer's job to say, "Screw the company." It isn't the company's job to say, "Screw the customer."

Update:

Well, after almost 8 months of being ignored by George Wedge, it looks like Para is going to try to make things right.

I posted an open letter to George about my problems on a dedicated 1911 forum. He replied within a few minutes and said he's going to arrange for a replacement pistol next week.

George also mentioned that the Toronto facility (which includes manufacturing) is moving to a new facility here in North Carolina. I'm hopeful the new facility might have better QC and manufacturing proceses.

I'll update this thread when the new pistol arrives, followed by a (keep your fingers crossed!) good range report.

Steve

Can you post a link to that thread?

Good luck BTW, I love mine and despite its heavy holster wear, its a great shooter.

This thread might have cost Para what, 7-8 grand? Nothing like a little bad publicity to get the ball rolling. Good for you and keep us posted.

Alot more then that. You figure all the people who haven't posted and changed their minds. Non registered viewers do a search on google for a review for their next purchase and read about instances like this. I was looking at the slim hawg before I became a member here. A little searching fixed that.

I was looking at a fullsize singlestack para, no longer, i might get a pt1911 instead as taurus atleast has a badazz warrenty.

After seeing what a coworker went thru with his Para Ordnance years ago I would never buy a pistol from this company. He sent it back two times nothing got fixed! It would choke 2 or 3 times a magazine at a minimum.

Loop said we are whiners if our guns don't function properly and we gripe. I have had many pistols over the years starting with a 32 Colt gub @'68. My Warthog has less than 500 rds through it and started FTF. I started using ball instead of lighter weight hollow points but it still would jam. Contacted the company and they gave me a shipping # to Tenn. Have not sent it back but parked it temporarily awaiting time enough to test fire it some more. Picked up a real nice Makarov and have been carrying it. Very accurate and fires everything put into it. Always said I would never carry a 9 but one has to be careful what he says-it usually comes back to bite you near an anal orifice. The finish on my 'hawg really showed holster wear but holstering it at least twice daily for two + years might have a bit to do with that. Before the jams I was completely satisfied but my confidence is gone. Once gone it will never return as my life is dependant on that second and consequent rounds being ready to fire(if the first is an errant round). wc

Stevmis-

I'm glad to see that this might, just might have a happy ending. It's amazing to me that someone would accept a gun that costs almost a thousand bucks, and claims you should expect to have to work on it before it actually fuctions as it should! I wouldn't, and haven't, accepted it in anything I've ever had, my SS Colt Commander had an amazing amount of problems, and it went to Colt, twice, and they did nothing but scratch it up (It was new, less than 100 rounds through it when it went the first time, and didn't have a scratch on it!), and do a little polishing, nothing to actually fix the problem, a frame and slide horribly out of tolerance. I didn't keep it long at all. I've never had any guns except 1911's that were so far out of spec that they just didn't function. I've had a bunch of so called "junk" semiautos that just shot great. Yeah, they weren't as pretty as a high end 1911, but they didn't jam, either.

It cost them a lot more than seven or eight grand.

In my book, Para has joined Kimber in my permanent "no sale" list for 1911A1 pistols. I'd bet I am far from alone in that sentiment.

Once a company begins putting out crap or screwing customers, that's a nearly impossible rep to shake off.

As promised, UPS came on Tuesday and picked up the pistol. They tried delivering to the TN repair center today, but they were closed (Xmas eve).

Good luck, though I don't see why they don't just send you a brand new one that has been properly test fired and hand-fit.

I have spent some time with a decent gunsmith and some bulls-eye shooters and every one of them says there is no excuse for a pistol not working out of the box. The reason they don't is that, for example, their machine tools and dies are worn and out of spec. And their gunsmiths may have worn tools as well. That and the volume of work they see prevents them from doing as good a job as they can.

I will certainly not consider a Para 1911 after reading this. Again, good luck and I hope they send you a new pistol. Otherwise they will just be polishing a turd at this point.
