I just wanted to know how many of you have assault rifles.I don't have any because I don't really need one.I have 2 hunting rifles, shotgun, black powder and a few handguns.I was watching DR phil and one of the people that got shot in that mall shooting a year ago want's to see all sales of assult rifles banned.I see where any other country would be crazy to try to take over america because so many people do have the weapons needed to defend themselves.

I mean assult style rifle in full auto or semi auto
AK 47/AR 15 those style rifles

More people are killed by crazy people in a car than by assult rifles. You don't here people wanting to ban cars

You guys are so picky you know what kind of rifle they(government officials) are talking about when they say an assult rifle ban
They want to ban your semi aoto's with a mag that holds nore than 5

Unfortunately I can't afford a fully automatic intermediate cartridge rifle, which is what an assault rifle is.

I do own some semi-auto rifles that are patterned after military weapons. I mostly shoot rifle matches with them. BSW

Here we go - the nit-pick police will be here soon to tell you an assault rifle is selective fire.

And yes, I have a few (whether you go by the selective fire definition or just consider a semi an "assault rifle")

I assume you mean fully automatic rifles when you use the term assault rifle. If you mean "assault weapon" there is no such thing. It's a made up term used by the anti's to try to disarm Americans.

I'm pretty sure the mall shooting wasn't done with an assault rifle.

I would like an AR 15 in semi auto

I'm not trying to be a jerk. But "assault style" rifle doesn't mean anything and has very little to do with functionality. A wooden Mini-14 semi and an AR-15 semi are both semi-auto and both shoot a .223 but one is "assault style" and the other is not? Assault style is a propaganda term. When you ask the question with that term it's a loaded question meant to induce a false view of guns.

I have more semiauto military style weapons that I have fingers, and I use them for self defense and hunting purposes.

I was led astray by the question and didn't think it through. I have 0 Assault Rifles, but more than one AR-15.

Is my Marlin model 60 an "assault" rifle? It will shoot more than most semi's..............just smaller caliber.

You must be psychic. :D

i would own an assault rifle if i had the necessary federal licensing and the money... instead, i have a wife.

but i do own some semi auto medum-power rifles which were initially designed to be instruments of war.

Actually, we don't.

Most of the criteria from the 1994 ban were arbitrary and irrelevant -- "flash hider"? "grenade launcher"? "bayonet lug"? What does any of that have to do with classifying the weapon or with gun crime? My SAR-1 has none of those, but everyone calls it an AK. It has a pistol grip, takes a detachable high capacity magazine, and was imported in 1999-2000. I put a side-folding stock on it when the ban expired. Now THAT feature might have some relevance to something, inasmuch as it lets me carry it concealed (legally), an entirely new capability for that rifle.

My Yugo M59/66 has a grenade launcher, a folding bayonet, and a bunch of other wicked features, but is perfectly legal because it has a fixed magazine -- for now. By the way, I reload a fixed SKS magazine faster with stripper clips than I replace a detachable AK magazine.

So no, we DON'T know what the heck they mean. "They" are illogical, irrelevant, arbitrary and irritating.

My vote is I think people who think any kind of weapon should be banned should be banned from America on the basis of being traitors. The people being able to overthrow the government if necessary is the last line of defense against tyranny; to oppose that freedom is to oppose what it means to be an American.

It's a mistake to allow the anti-gunners to define OUR terms for us.

A true assault rifle IS capable of full auto fire. Therefore, any AR or AK or Mini-14 or M1A that is semi-automatic is not, but true defintion, as "assault" rifle.

Yes, I know they lump them altogether, but that doesn't make them correct.

MANY folks watching the news blurb about banning a semi-automatic see news footage showing a FULL-AUTO AK being shot at a range, while the reporter drones on about banning them. Obviously, that full-auto AK is already severely restricted, but the story was about banning semi-auto. It's shabby journalism at best, agenda driven at worst.

I can picture Ma and Pa Kettle watching that clip, look at each other and say, "Dang, Martha, NO ONE needs one of those machine guns fer deer hunting! Ban 'em, I say..."

It is not being 'picky' when proper terms are corrected. It's being factual and clear.
