I was at my favorite gun shop today and he had a S&W model 59 for $450. i would love to get it to go with my Model 39-2, and am wondering if this is a descent price. It comes with original papers and box with 1 mag. Appears to be in really good condition. thanks for any help.

Yeah, even with the box and all I'd think it is about $100. high.

On the other hand it IS a Smith & Wesson and smith auto pistols do have a sort of underground collector following that'll probably grow, and if you don't buy it someone else will get it. In five years you'll kick yourself around for once passing on a gun that sells then for twice this price.

Or not. It's all a crapshoot.

Happy to be able to help....:)

At $450, it depends upon what condition it is in. Book price (2006 data, keep in mind) for an ANIB example is over $500. $450 could be a very good price depending upon the condition, but there's too little information to judge based on the description the OP gave.

A 95% one at $300 is a very, very good deal and I think I'd be tempted to snap that one up without much argument. The 59 is a classic gun, and arguably the second most historically important American autoloader after the 1911.

Normally I'd say that's way high. But in this market, I have no idea. Anything goes right now, seems to be going rate.

Prices are up up and away.

Oro, I agree that $300 was a good deal

Maybe I should call him and see if he'd ship it to my FFL. I (don't tell anyone!) don't actually own a "wonder nine". My girl has a H&K VP70, but that's more of a curiosity than a real 9mm in my book.

Cole Distributing Inc. is advertising 90% condition 59's for $319.95 in the latest SGN. 80% condition are 299.96.

Cole is pretty easy to deal with. My FFL has never gotten anything for me from then wasn't as nice as they said.

Considering the guns Cole's is selling have no box or papers usually... I think $450 with the orginal box and papers isn't a bad price if the gun your local dealer has is really nice. I'd ask if $400 would buy it.

I have S&W nickel plated 59 in excellent condition that I bought from a friend. Not a scratch on it. Anybody have any idea what it might be worth?

Thanks Vonderek! Mine is probably much closer to the 98%. I was thinking of selling it to a friend but the selfish side of me is having serious second thoughts. I'm going to pick up the Beretta PX4 .40 this weekend so I was going to let him have it for $300 but to heck with him. I think I'll keep it! I'm sure he will understand and if not, "to heck with him"! lol
