I've been busy for a while working on a new site for people like me that want to buy stuff locally, but don't have a good resource to find local items.

There are classifieds plastered all over the web but I don't have time to search all the forums out there.

So, I put together http://ftffinder.com. It's just about ready for prime time, so if anyone here has something for sale, you can be my guinea pigs. :)

Please let me know if part of the site is confusing or isn't intuitive. I still need to make a listing of states that allow FTF transfers, and then only those states will show up when you add an item to one of the firearms categories.

I'd like to get some feedback on the overall usability of the site.

Thanks!

I looked at it briefly without setting up an account.

It would seem that if you are listing firearms by area, that should be the first thing that a user sees. For example, with Craigslist, the intro page is a list of cities/states. Once you choose your city, all of the searches are in that city.

If you are doing FTF searches, the first criteria should be choosing a state.

That's a good suggestions but until there are many more items for sale, cities will be useless to query on.

You can easily filter by state now, and I'm going to put in a map that will show all items within a certain distance from the zip in your profile, that way you can get a quick list of things nearby.

Once there are enough items on the site to warrant a city search, I may rearrange things to work like craigslist if people prefer that.

I did add the location in the table listing, so it is easier to see what state items are in without clicking on them or using the expanded view.

Just a quick bump for those that might have missed it before.

I should have some time in the next week or so to add some new features.

Let me know if you have other comments or suggestions.

Just to protect yourself from the law, I'd add a disclaimer at the bottom of every page, that "the burden of proof" to show that the buyer is not a felon or otherwise restricted purchaser is upon the hands of the seller, the site takes no responsibility for listed items, or purchases by unqualified people.

If I were you, I'd find a family member/good friend who is a lawyer, and see if they can write one up for you. Anytime you run a site like this, you are in effect a "middleman" and can be pulled into a lawsuit if something happens with a gun sold through your site. Make sure that you have your bases covered! Create a user agreement that someone has to check a "I read this, and agree" box before they can list an item.

Otherwise, the site is a great idea, I really hope you can get it off the ground. +1 on adding the State filter first. I don't want to look at guns in Ohio when I live in NH.. It should be automatic, you shouldn't have to "Filter", state selection should be first.

I'll look into the disclaimer, but I don't see how I'd be more liable than say, a Trading Post or classifieds section of the newspaper. I know that won't matter though, so I'll probably have something written up.

Regarding the state selection, I'm working on a very simple solution for displaying items for the state that is saved in your profile. A state listing will be one click away.

Because it will be awhile before there are enough items to really have meaningful FTF searches, the site accommodates both FTF and FFL transfers. Eventually, there will be enough items that local FTF searches will bring up items, but until then, if I put in a state selector first, no one will see any items and folks probably won't be inclined to sign up/post.

I like the idea, and was going to suggest the search within so many miles of a certain zip. That is a great function for those of us here in the boonies.

Nice, recommendations

First when doing the drill down looking for a weapon.

State, City, Class of weapon, with a list.

Or maybe put two options. Original method you have listed and then by state, city listings as an alternate.
