Why cant I find a comfotable IWB holster

Leather needs to break in, when it does you'll find it much more comfortable.

Yes, I'd recommend you get larger pants (usually 1 inch larger will work).

What kind of gun are you carrying?
Which Galco holster you using? Galco's leather holsters are usually pretty heavy leather.


I've found over the years that a leather dual clip/loop style holster is the most comfortable for me.

It also helps if you wear your pants a little higher around your waist.

That way when you sit down, the tension from you waist to bum doesn't force the holster/gun further into your side.

You should really try to get your hands on a dual clip/loop type holster. The G19/23 is a large enough firearm that you'd be much more comfortable with that setup because it will be thinner and not rotate on you at all.

Something like a Milt Sparks VMII, an HBE Leatherworks COM3 or DC Special, an Ugly Bald Guy Striker or Canute or a K&D Dakota Defender or the Crossbreed distra linked above.


I carry a similarly sized gun (A Steyr S40) in a pancake holster I modified to IWB.



I carry it 24/7/365 (including with only jeans and a t-shirt).


There's also a little bit of mindset at work here. You may have to force yourself to carry a lot at first, eventually you'll get to where you feel odd WITHOUT the gun (kind of like leaving the house without a watch).

For an inexpensive and very comfortable holster I really like the Mr softy from http://highnoonholsters.com/Product_Line/_Mr_Softy/_mr_softy.html. I have several holsters from them and the Mr Softy has been very good with my 1911's and Sig Sauer pistols, they run $24.95 + shipping.


As far as summer carry I just wear a baggy T-shirt. I also like Hawaiian shirts too, the multi colored pattern helps break up any printing you may have from your gun.

High quality belt can really make a differance here; if you're using a $5 thrift shop dress belt, it won't work right.

Smart Carry

I tried several holsters before a buddy turned me on to the smart carry holster. The rest of my holsters now hang on the door of my safe. This thing works even in a pair of gym shorts. No need for a belt. Just took a little getting used to carrying in the front, but now I like it better than anything. My buddy carries with his at the 4 o'clock position and likes that better.
BTW, I carry either a 23 or 36 in mine.

I'll second this.

I have a G27 and I've tried Fobus, Uncle Mikes and Don Hume.

The Crossbreed blows them away. For $70, I haven't found a better holster.

I agree with armoredman about a high quality gun belt. I personally favor the wilderness instructor belts. I also have 2 nice leather "gun" belts when the wilderness belts aren't quite right for the clothing.

I normally carry either a full size PARA 1911 SSP, or a Glock 30. I have a Milt Sparks VMII and a Galco Royal Guard (similar to the summer comfort) for both guns. I tend to use the VMII's more often. Both types are very confortable, but like any carry method, it's something you have to get used to over time. Pretty soon, you'll practically forget you even have a carry rig on.

BTW, I also carry a J-frame 642 all the time in a Mika pocket holster in my left front pocket. This further weighs down my pants, but using a good gun belt keeps my pants from drooping.

The Glock is a big part of your problem. They just aren't designed to stick inside your pants.

Its expensive and requires a long wait most of the time...

But a Milt Sparks Versa Max II is hard to beat.

I've tried many different IWB designs, including three different Milt Sparks designs, as well as some others from custom leatherworkers, and I've never found an IWB holster that I felt comfortable wearing. As a result I have made a deliberate decision to not fight against what my body is telling me, and now I only use high-ride belt holsters for CCW.

Gun belts are thicker, stiffer, more comfortable, more expensive, and...unless you carry a VERY light pistol....they are necessary.

Body shape may have something to do with it. Some of us simply were not designed to wear IWB holsters. If you have really narrow hips like mine, there is nothing for a belt to hang on. The only way to make it stay is to tighten it to the point where it compresses your body and creates a sort-of waist. I've never been able to stash anything bigger than a PPK inside my belt, and even that digs in a bit when I move.

Before you blow lots of bucks trying every IWB on the market, see if (or where) there is actually room between you and your belt for a gun at all. The right holster will hold the gun where you want it, but it cannot create space which is not there to begin with.

They aren't kiddng about a gun belt. The best deal i've found for a high quality gun belt are the Rafter S gunleather belts at $50 a pop. I favor my Rafter S over my Gunner's Alley belt made by beltman. It was cheaper too. Both belts have lasted several years with no sign of giving up but when I buy another one it will be Rafter S. No need to spend twice as much for a belt of equal quality.

I just realized that I don't think they have a sizing chart for concealed carry. I tend to wear size 33 to 34ish pants and the size 37 works for me although I might order a 38 if I were to order a new one. When I ordered the belt I was wearing more like size 32 and 37 was still just fine.
