Just stumbled onto this subject by accident. Because of the length of the replies I have not taken the time to read everything.
I have a 336 I inherited from my father. By all acounts this rifle is an oldie. My father was in the Army during WWII and became good friends with a guy that grew in the town where Marlins were made. Hereing my father talk about the west (Idaho) interested the guy enough that after the war, he wanted to come out and visit. He brought a 336 and a 39A with him. These two rifle were purchased after firearms manufacturers switched back to civilian guns, but before they were being shipped to dealers in quantity.
Killed my first deer with this 30-30. Sure is a sweet old rifle.

This 336RC in 35 Rem is only a youngster born in 1958.

My Dad bought this 336A new in 1949 his Dad bought one at the same time both are 30-30's, I shot my first Mule deer with it when I was 12, 37 years ago:what: It has been through a house fire when I was 6 and has killed more Mule deer than I could ever guess. My Dad gave it to after I shot my first deer with it. It still shoots as good as ever and is smooth as silk, not much to look at, but I would not change a thing about it!

I still let my Dad shoot it now and then;)

This one is a bit newer a 1969 336 Texan 30-30

And this is what it shoots like at 100 yds.

Hooray for Marlin 336

I have owned a Marlin Lever action since I was a very small lad in North Dakota (Now in Maine). I currently own a 30AS and a 336 RC. I will never part with either one. I love Marlins lever actions (not Winchesters, let me hit you in the face lever action). Okay enough picking on the winchester folks. :neener: Cna anyone tell me when my 336 RC was made? It's S/N starts with F5XXX. (Oh, I also have a Marlin 308 Express and a Model 1895, .45-.70:what:)

Any nhelp with the manf. of my 336 RC would be greatly appriciated. ( I've had it so long now its has to be a pre-1955, I was born in 1957.)

Thanks again:)

My fault for not saying

CJ,

My fault for not saying. I knew that the 336 RC comes in both .35 cal (Rem)and .30-.30 , my 336 RC is a .30-.30. But does the year still appear to be correct? Thank-you for your quick response. Where do you find all the serial # information anyway?

Just picked up another 336 in 30-30,:neener:

What I'd like to find is a side mount scope mount. Saw a couple lever action's at a gun show, but did not inquire about the mounts - wish I had. Anybody know where to look?

Why would you want a side mount? One of the 336's strong points is the side ejection allowing an over bore scope mount.

kiawahman...Try the peep or aperture sights. You might like it. I can shoot as tight of groups with my peep sight as I do with a lower powered scope.

This came home with me today. It's a 1976 Marlin 336A in 30-30, and with the 24" barrel. This was a 'safe queen' and is in beautiful condition.

This is my soulmate.

:neener:

Just acquired another 'safe queen' 1972 336 in 30-30.

Now my brother has the bug for Marlins too. He just bought a model 36 in VG condition for $250.

Can't get enough of 'em.
