10MM pistol Question

Makes no difference to me one way or the other. I have my Glock 20 and what anyone else does doesn't affect me.

I wish I could remember where I saw the crap about the 1006 having durability issues published. So far my only 10mm is my 1006 and I only paid $450 for it like 2 years ago:) Came with 3 mags and an Aker leather shoulder holster.

Saturno_V,

The Elite Stock metnioned by the OP is a DA/SA like the standard witness. The other Elite guns are all SAO (Limited, Match, Gold Team). The Gold Team is not available in 10mm.

MPMarty,

Any documentation/links about what Tangfolio did to correct the newer 'round' slides? I would really like to read about that.

"DO NOT USE +P Ammo or High Velocity High Pressure Ammunition (factory or hand-loaded)
The use of reloaded, high pressure or hand-loaded ammunition can be dangerous and will void the warranty."

The above is from the WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTION MANUAL for the Witness on the EAA website.

It begs the question what is high velocity or high pressure ammunition. The 10mm has SAAMI standards or pressures.

I would argue that if it meets the SAAMI standards it is neither high pressure nor high velocity. Since EAA wrote the ambiguous manual, the burden of proof should be on EAA to prove that you voided your warranty by using ammo which exceeded the SAAMI standards.

Most companies say not to use reloaded ammo. Its just a way to protect their a**es if anything bad happens. Ive dumped thousands of +P rounds through my Beretta 92F with no problems at all. It will wear them out a bit quicker but wont blow up the first time you try it.

I am with Mello in the interpretation of the warning. I think it would apply to the 9mm and 45 ACP versions of the gun for which there are factory loads that are rated +P and +P+. SAAMI says 10mm standard is 37,500, and that is therefore what I expect the weapon to handle. A handload disclaimer is boilerplate to all such manuals.

I have loaded some max loads and my guns ate them fine. Not just a handfull either. Probably 300-400 rounds between the two Witness I have. Neither is showing any worse for wear.

I've had lots of issues with EAA Witness magazines in every caliber except .45ACP.

Generally if a stronger Wolf spring doesn't fix it, you'll likely need to squeeze the front of the feed lips in a bit and then file the sides of the follower so it will come up high enough to lock the slide back again. PITA, but if you get good mags the Witness Elite Match is a fantastic buy. I've no qualms about recommending them in .45ACP, other calibers, I won't recommend because of the potential magazine issues.

My EAA Witness Elite Match in 10mm Auto

Here is my Elite Match in 10mm Auto. The magazines on the left are from Henning Walgren and those are his aluminum base pads. Of course I am going to use Double Tap ammo. The Blazer was a recommendation from someone but I forget who.

My apologies for not answering sooner. Tanfoglio has a website and lists their phone numbers and email addresses. My information on the machining change in the round top slides came during a telephone discussion with an armorer in Italy. The Witness pistols are far more popular in Europe than here and are sold under the Tanfoglio name. Many european countries limit competitors to one pistol. With the Tanfoglio guns the uppers are exchanged to facilitate numerous calibers on the one registered pistol.

Magazines: Early magazines had known problems. The later magazines seem to be fine. The early ones had black followers and the newer ones have red ones. Early 40S&W magazines of both follower colors were not "blocked" to the shorter round in the full size frames. Later ones had a rib down the front to shorten the overall length of the mags. I shoot 40S&W in my Elite Match with a second barrel for cheap practice ammo (or I used to when there was cheap 40S&W ammo around) and both the shortened mags and the full size 10mm mags worked fine.

I've read numerous accounts by people who've talked to Mr. Richter at EAA, reporting that he claimed Double Tap, Buffalo Bore, etc. are such "high velocity" rounds. Take this account provided by saturno_v, who posts around here regularly: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=401649

I guess i just like that first round double action. Gotta stick with my Smiths. Besides my new job will not let us carry 1911s. Yes the Glock 20 is nice ,but it does not fit my hand right. It's all about fit.
