The Election is over! November 4th Happened! Get Over it!!

My old saying is that "the best way to get over an old girlfriend, is to get under a new one."

Not sure if that applies here.

The positive side

My lovely Wife talked me into watching 60 minutes with the new President to be, and his highly educated, and articulate Wife.

This Mum and Dad, are truly loving parents, and who love each other, or if not they should claim the highest acting award in Hollywood!

I think the new first Family will be a credit to the United States of America.

I was born in England, lived in Australia, and Canada. Love the US of A, love my State, Florida. Carry a Glock 19 every day. And at 73 years of age, know my own mind, as a friend of mine (US born ex-Marine 72 YOA) said, "when my new Commander in Chief takes the baton, he will be saluted by me."

God bless the USA.

Since the election, even with no special advertising, our gun club is burgeoning! Our memberships are 12-months from sign-up, but we have a fairly high membership turnover as many of our members are service people. Our norm has been about 50 to 60 new members/month...but last month we jumped to 96, and so far this month, with 1-1/2 weeks to go, we are up to 105 for the month! Gun and ammunition sales are similarly skyrocketing, and our range (on which I work 9-hr Saturdays as Range Safety Officer, is nearly full a large part of the time.

My point: the more people involved in shooting, the larger our gun clubs, the more seriously the elected folks will take our concerns. Too many people have never been introduced to the shooting sports, are simply afraid of guns, and fear them through basic ignorance. Take a non-shooting friend shooting!

We successfully fought back in 1994 and got pro gun legislators elected. We can do it again. As usual, the liberals will mistakenly think they have a mandate and attempt to over reach and enough of the complacent people will wake up.

M.D.WOODS, you are quite right! We may not be able to keep laws from being enacted, but we can lessen the effects by attaching amendments, such as the sunset date on the first Kennedy assault weapons ban. Otherwise, ir seems difficult to repeal even bad laws...

About the only silver lining...a restrictive gun law will provide fresh proof that when guns are removed from law-abiding people, total crime always rises.:banghead:

Hi....a 61 year old newbie here. I have spent the last several months at another forum and I am glad that someone here has finally said Enough is Enough. Move On.

Though very disappointed in the results, I agree, move on. Here's the hand....now figure out how to make the best of it!

This is not a political thread

and do not wander too afar from the subject of the thread.

I'm not so worried despite the presidents anti gun leanings.

I'm sure a lot of the area he formerly represented being an urban area was for gun control and he was "dancing with who brung him" to a degree. After all LBJ voted consistently against civil rights legislation as a congressman.

Second his chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel encouraged Democrats who were pro gun or pro life to run in formerly republican areas so at least from his standpoint having more votes on gun control was not his top priority.

Third I just don't see the president making a lot of the dems from rural areas "walk the plank" for gun control since Clintons himself said it was why they lost congress in 94. I just don't see for instance John Tester of Mt or Webb of VA (who got in trouble for bringing a pistol with him to Washington) signing onto anything. I see the 2nd amendment dems joining with the Republicans to filibuster anything like that.

FOURTH Columbine was a big factor in getting what was passed in the Clinton admin passed. The fact that after the Virginia Tech shootings the newly Dem controlled house did not roll out a lot of gun control shows Pelosi knows it is a LOSER issue for the dems and they have more important things to do. Like stay elected

Obama's planned gun control

We must work together to show voter force against any and all efforts to restrict gun ownership by our politicians. I am going to participate/support all gun groups in a effort to work against any ban/restrictions on personnal ownership weapons or ammunition. I will vote against every elected official that has voted on any type of legistration to ban/restrict guns/ammunition or has indicated he will support any type of future gun/ammunition restrictions. I believe the planned 2nd amendment March 2009 to D.C. is just one of the ways to tell our elected officials of the gun owners determination to not allow them to change the Constitution.

Aside from the pointlessness of arguing over differences rather than concentrating on similarities, there's a definite "screaming hysterical howler monkey" mentality manifesting itself to everyone's detriment already (and I'm not just talking about fanatics at either end of the spectrum making the "normal" folks in the middle nervous about perceived guilt by association)...prices are skyrocketing and supplies are plummeting. Merchants are...well...merchants, and they're happy to make a buck in the market while the fear-frenzy continues.

Then again...maybe a little bit of the gun-frenzy is coming from people seeing the financial meltdown in-progress and getting a little (justifiably in my book) twitchy about the implications for social/economic upheaval.

Funny, though, how a lot of the same people who refuse to recognize the well-documented socio-economic roots of most crime all of a sudden are making that same connection and warning of a coming apocalypse based on...guess what: socio-economic decline.

Go figure.

Hey, the gun buying has done one thing here in my area of south east Florida, muggings, convienice store robberies and home invasions are down after several new gun owners used deadly force to defend their store or themselves.

So far, BHO has has not shown us his fast ball. He's throwing sliders and off speed stuff down the middle and and middle away. I think everybody is on edge from his far left agenda, as evidenced by his speech, interviews, and voting record. He has clearly stated that he wants to ban certain guns and implement oppressive controls on our God given (natural) rights.

Now, it he has any political savvy to speak of, he'll concentrate on cleaning up the effects of his party's bad decisions and policies, e.g., the no-drill/no-refine energy policy and the financial disaster spawned by coercing lenders to lend money to unfit borrowers.

If he has any political sense whatsoever, he'll fix the obvious ills of the USA, before he tries to take us the way of the Bolsheviks and Marxist Russian Social Democratic Labor Party.

Reid has far more to lose then Pelosi. I wouldn't put it past her to try to push for it anyways. What does she care - she's from California. It's not going to cost her votes.
Reid on the other hand is from NV - where even the California hippie transplants have a shotgun or two. He made a move on this stuff- he'd be gone, quick.

I just received a warning from NRA-ILA about this, and there's a front page article in todays World Net Daily on it, so I assume it's heating up again...timely for the newly elected state legislatures to consider? Apparently this bill is already in submission in 18 state legislatures...I thought it was old, as California has already adopted it, though the capability for employing it hasn't yet been developed. Possibly it is old, and the bills are in limbo...but not dead? SNOPES has nothing on it.

As written, this:

1. Makes currently owned ammunition illegal.

2. Vastly increases the cost of new ammunition.

3. Requires registration and tracking of new coded ammunition purchases.

4. Ends ammunition reloading.

5. Has no effect on criminal use of guns in crime.

Hopefully the newly elected state and federal goveernments will be inclined to protect us from this mess....

Your B-Ball analogy is on target, but as far as his political savvy, I wonder if your've considered this...

BHO has almost no chance of delivering on his many promises (The economy is a mess and will remain that way regardless of what he does. Government healthcare for everyone was, and still is, an obsurd notion - especially with the economy as it is.)

Given that he isn't likely to come through on his promises, he needs to find something else he can deleiver to America to hang his hat on. With a very supportive congress that is so radically left, (it is farther left than at any time in my 53 years on this planet) he'll have almost no trouble getting tougher gun laws enacted. It is only a matter of time until he figures this out (he probably already has). After passing tougher legislation, his friends at CNN and NBC will "spin-up" the story to make him sound like the second coming of JHChrist for "making the nation safer". (Total leftist tripe of course).

BTW -- .38 Super used to be my favorite weapon back in the day. Had a MarkIV Series 70 that shot very tight groups until funds were needed and it was sold for emergency cash -- sure wish I still had it!!!
