Benelli vs. Beretta

I created an account specifically to give my own .02. I bought a SBE II Comfortech. I "broke" it in using the biggest baddest rounds I could find, I put about 50 rounds down the barrel of the big stuff. I then took it out again and did the same thing. Today I took it to shoot skee. 3 Fail to loads in in 3 boxes of ammo it did not cycle 2 3/4 8oz shot. I heard this happens on light loads. I didn't pay close to 1500 dollars for a gun that will only shoot heavy loads. I am going to clean the heck out of it oil it up and try the heavy load break in one more time. If that doesn't work I will have a lightly used SBE II for sale or trade for an extrema II.

Beretta. I am not even a closet masochist. I have shot 3-1/2" out of a Mossberg and an SBE. Memorable, but not enjoyable. Everytime I think my 3" non-steel, non-toxic shells are too high, I remember that experience.
'Course I don't need anything more for waterfowl between my 1100 and my Wingmaster.

Unfortunately, Lo4t you did buy a 1500 dollar gun that will only shoot light loads. And with the exception of a few....exceptions no 3 1/2 autoloader will handle every load equally. It will handle the heavy ones ultra reliably and the light ones finickily.

Whats the price for teh SBE2 going to be? Im sure not going to buy it.
After you get that Extrema 2 you might as well put it up for sale to because reliability is already in question.

If you want a shotgun that is going to shoot light loads get a pump or a 3in model.

All this thread tells you is that they are both great guns, buy the one YOU like.

FWIW I'd buy the M2 Benelli, I own one and am very pleased with it, and I prefer the slightly less "futuristic" look of it, compared to the SBE.

I've put 18000 round personally through my Benelli M2 in about 3 years and it looks and works pretty much like brand new.

Been a lurker for a while but decided to do my sign up and do my first post. I owned a SBE2 for 2 years now. Here are my pros and cons. I hunt pigeon in the summer (75-100 rounds of 2 3/4 #71/2s) and I hunt ducks 2-3 times a week in the Northeast US (using BlackCloud 3" #2 or 3s)
Pros - super light weight, comfortable and easy to shoulder, real easy to clean, great customer service at the benelliusa
Cons - has problem cycling second shell often (this is more obvious when it is raining or snowing, kicks like a mule which isnt a problem with many layers on but shooting pigeon in the Summer makes your shoulder sore

Do like the feel of gun but I am looking elsewhere, sick of rushing my first shot on ducks and then NOT having a second because the dam gun is jammed!

My SBE2 has been sent back already and factory cleaned...maybe I just have a dud

If I don't care about gun weight much, the Extrema 2 with Kick-Off. It's not a lightweight, but a gas-operated shotgun with the shock absorber in the butt is going to be about as comfortable to shoot with waterfowl loads as anything ever made.

I'd like a Benelli lightweight 20 for birds in the mountains. But I own 2 semi Berettas so far, and apart from that one specialized niche, that's all I am particularly interested in buying in the future. They work from day 1, they shoot soft, and they cycle anything.

This one is not without humor. It's interesting how some things have changed in three years. I was also wanting a 105CTi in 2006. I've since given up on that.

I shot an Xtrema 2 and me SBE 2 side by side this weekend on a hunting trip. Recoil seemed smoother with the gas system but it was negligable when focusing on a duck. For me it boils down to the SBE II just fits me better.

I shoot with a couple of friends that use the SBE. It seems to do just fine with heavier loads, but does not like lighter target loads. I've seen both of their guns jam up shooting clays.

Me? I love my Super X2.

Mine has functioned properly for years without a hitch. Lightweight but waterfouls and does Phesant like a laser.

I own a Beretta 1201f 12 guage shotgun. This is the best gun i have ever owned. I have had it for 18 years and it has only jammed twice. Once when iwas hunting in 9 degree weather and had used a water based lubricant on my shotgun and it froze. The other time i was hunting and i accidentally dropped my gun in the sand, i tried to clean it out as best as possible and it fired fine after one jam. i have put my beretta through hell and has not failed me yet. This gun will last a lifetime and is the best shotgun i have ever owned. I own a benelli as well but the beretta is definitely my absolute favorite.
