For example, if I want to have some custom work done on my CZ P-01, can I ship it to CZ Custom or do I have to have my local FFL ship it for me?

Thanks for any help.

You can ship it but as I understand it, it has to go thru an overnight carrier. I just shipped a Glock today to their plant in GA via Fed Ex. I was in and out in 5 minutes and it cost me $52.00 to ship from IL.
An FFL dealer can ship thru the mail but he will charge you also.

completely legal

It is very legal for you to ship your firearm to a repair shop for work. It is just as legal for the same repair shop to ship it directly back to you.

This is exactly how Ruger handled my LCP. I got a box and called, UPS showed up the next day and took it next day air. When Ruger was done with it, came straight home to me.

The legal resource I like is NRA.org, click on the ILA tab and go to gun laws. Lots of current info on federal and state by state listing.

The overnight requirement, as far as I can tell, is not a law, but a requirement of FedEx and UPS. I don't know about any other shipping company. The require it to go overnight so their employees have less time to steal it.

Your FFL can ship post office. FFL fee + priority flat rate + insurance + signature confirmation = cheaper than UPS or FedEx I shipped one a few weeks ago, cost me $30 while FFL fee is $20.

OK can I ship a pistol to myself? I am have a pistol that I am having trouble getting the time to pick it up.

I find it cheaper to go through my FFL also.

$20 FFL fee
$15.80 USPS insured

Pistol arrived in 3 days for only $35.80 and I didn't have to mess with anything. I've done this several times and haven't had a problem.

I used to ship them myself through UPS. But like others I now find it cheaper and less painful to have my local FFL ship it for me.

Ajoker,

Not if it doesn't leave the state. He could ship a firearm to himself in Texas if it's coming from a location within Texas.

I mean unless it's a gun you're buying from a dealer... In that case you still have to go through NiCS
