I am selling a couple of .308 Bren mags for use in an Inch FAL. A quick check indicates that the .308 Bren was produced 1958-1991. I think this means that all Bren mags are pre-ban and would be legal in states such as New York. Please advise.

Thanks,

Drakejake

Yes, I've never heard of a post-ban Bren mag. Of course, how would you prove it, if it came to that?

Btw, how much do you want? I may want to pick up another one.

What do you mean "pre-ban? There is no ban in place so the term has no meaning unless I am missing something.

Certain states (NY for instance) have kept some of the rules from the last AWB, and so any "new" high cap mag is illegal. If t was made before 1994 though....then it is "pre ban" and legal. At least that is what i understand.

Trebor, I am selling two Inch Bren mags for $100 the pair on Gunbroker. Auction is close to ending and I have one bidder. I sold my Century Inch rifle. I still have two Metric FALs and just shot them with modified Brens bought from DSA. Big lip on the front has been filed down to fit the Metric mag well and the mag refinished in gray. They worked perfectly.

As the OP mentioned, several states still have bans in place.

He mentioned New York specifically, there are a few others where "pre ban" still applies.

I did not know that FAL mags were that hard to find. Around here they go for about 10 bucks. Is there a particular reason for using Bren mags in a FAL??

How does prove or disprove the claimed age of a magazine? I have seen some G3 mags that were dated, but most are not.

Acera,

I admit that using 30 round Bren mags in a FAL is a bit of a novelty. But it is a kick to go through 30 rounds without changing the mag. The original .308 Bren mags can be used in Inch FALs. Some company took these mags, filed down the front tab or lip so they will fit into Metric FALs, and refinished them in gray. I believe I got mine from DSA. Mine have worked great in my FALs but some report having problems using them

The .308 Bren was produced c. 1958-1991. It is therefore likely that all of the mags for this rifle are pre-ban. I doubt if any company produced mags after the rifle was discontinued.

Thanks Drakejake, did not realize that was the way to get a 30 rounder in your FAL. I have noticed that some of the magazines I own have had the tip of the follower bent in flush, so it does not activate the bolt hold open. I just assumed that they were shipped in during the ban or something. Getting better educated by the day.:)

Will the Bren work with Rock River Arms LAR-8? and if so how do you tell wich BREN Mags will work? and were can you pick them up new or in very good to excellent condition?

Thanks
