ProMag magazines

The simple answer is NO. If you are looking for something to just use at the range and have low expectations they are OK. Other than that they are not worth the price.

I can't vouch for other models, but ProMags I bought back in the '90's for my Beretta 96 functioned flawlessly.

They have a pretty bad reputation, lots of complaints from the soldiers overseas. But for what it's worth, Mec-Gar magazines can be had for $24-$25 a piece online. This is the same company that makes a lot of the magazines under contract for several gun manufacturers.

Promag = poop.

Run quickly in the opposite direction when you see the word "ProMag."

I bought two at different mags of theirs for two different weapons, maybe a year and a half apart. Both were too tight and the first one got stuck quite badly. No more for me.

Yuk.

With only a few exceptions, ProMags are just junk.

Yep, my experience, too. Not a big deal unless you expect them to feed reliably I'm kinda picky about reliability issues on anything that I expect to go "bang."

As noted, MecGar is the OEM of choice, and make "factory mags" for top tier firearms manufacturers. THEIR product is the "gold standard" by which the others are judged.

Spend a couple more bucks and get something you can rely on.

Factory mags? YES
MecGar mags? YES

ProMags? NOPE...

I'll agree with everyone else who has mentioned the reliability and value of MecGar mags.

On the other hand, I have two Pro-Mag magazines for a Sig P226 I used to own and they never gave me a single problem. They'd have been the last two I'd use in a pinch, but, like I said, I never had any malfunctions with them. I think I only paid $10-$15 each for them, but they'd be just fine for range use.

Higher capacity 45 acp mags?

I have a Mec Tec 45acp rifle unit that works well with the one 10 round 1911 type Pro-Mag that I'd had for years..don't even know where it came from. Are there any other makers of high capacity 45acp mags that would be suitable for rifle use?

Bought some Promags at a gun show for my HK P7M8 & Sig P229 years ago.

The first time I fired the H&K at the range, the mag dropped out the bottom. Turns out the mag-catch hole was cut so badly that the that the force of recoil would work it loose.

Popped the Sig magazine into my P229. It went in but didn't come out. I had to disassemble the gun and use a dowel to pound the mag out from the top. Problem? The mag catch hole was cut a full 1/2" lower down the magazine than it should have been, this wedged the mag catch tight against the side of the magazine.

Only time I ever had any problems with either pistol.

0 for 2, I don't need a third experience with ProMags.

I have nothing against Pro-Mag magazines. I've just never seen that has worked properly -- and I've seen quite a few of them through the years.

I tried pro-mags in my BHP. It basically morphed into a single shot. Not fun on the range and fatal on the street!

I have some promags for my Beretta 92 and some steel 20 rounders for my AR. They 've worked well for me but you can tell they aren't made well. The Beretta mag seems cheesy compared to factory and Mecgar's. The AR mags are really heavy but work 100%.

At least those two models work well for range magazines but wouldn't use them for anyting else.
