Went to the Portland show and noticed the big buying spree has all but quit. Dealers with black rifles that had hugely inflated prices on them just didn't sell many.

Ammo was plentifull but exspensive and saw very few people buying alot of it. I think the bubble has burst and the high prices are going to be eaten by the dealers real soon and that is a bad thing because it will cause alot of them to go out of business.

Another bubble:cuss:

In ND, i am beginning to see used/next to new AR's in the classifieds, I am thinking that they are going to be going up for sale to pay other bills as time goes on. Might be an opportunity for some of us to get a few more. I also think that there are less and less being sold on gunbroker.com lately.

with the economy in the crapper it was only a matter of time before sales stopped. especially with the marked up prices we have seen the last few months

My bet is ammo and guns will decline in price in the next six months by a large amount. Good for the shooters but bad for the investors.

Just like the houseing bubble some guys are going to be stuck with high priced property when they need to sell it and no buyers.

Be slow and easy to buy from now on.

What are you guys seeing where you are from????

Just Jim: Maybe, and maybe not. Maybe it depends where you are in Oregon.

I was in a shop in Redmond a couple of weeks back, and the lone guy behind the counter was swamped ... too busy to help anyone effectively, in fact. "Hasn't stopped since November," he grumbled more than once.

I went to another shop the same day in Redmond (it's in Central Oregon for those not familiar with Oregon), and saw a large inventory of guns -- both handguns and rifles -- and ammo. The prices were decent: lots of shoppers, lots of action, and at least three sales of handguns that I saw while I was there.

I was in WallyWorld in Salem the other day (it's two and a half hours west of Redmond) trying to pick up some 9mm Winchester white box, and darned if they weren't out of it, along with all brands of .38 Special ammo. In fact, the guy behind the counter had to dig deep to find me a single box of bulk Federal .22lr. "We're selling everything that comes in, and we've having trouble getting resupplied," he said.

It might just be that folks have figured out there are better places to buy than the overpriced gun shows.

Why would it cause dealers to go out of business? I didn't think the manufacturers cranked up their prices to dealers much, did they? It'll definitely make a 100% profit on an AR go back to where it was before the frenzy.
I was at that show yesterday and was disappointed, but it does seem prices are starting to come down. Except that one table with a used romanian AK for $850

I used to go to the gun shows but with the $9.00 to get in the door, the $5.00 parking and nothing that I wanted to buy once I got in, I stopped going. The gun shop prices are better.

The last two area gun shows I've gone to, the big ammo dealers didn't even show up. Either they've got something going on somewhere else, or maybe they just don't have enough ammo to make it worth their while. I've checked the area WallyWorld stores that still stock ammo, and it's pretty much the same thing at all of them. No bulk pack .22s in Winchester or Federal (all that's left is Remington), no WWB 9mm. (but there is Remington Yellow box), not much .45ACP, (mostly Blazer Brass and again, Remington), but interestingly enough, quite a bit of .40S&W from Winchester, CCI, and Remington. Plenty of shotgun shells from all manufacturers. Now when they have the ammo in stock, they still have fairly low prices, but a clerk at one of the stores said that the last shipment they received contained only one box of Remington .357 ammo. That's box, not case.

Glad I didn't make the drive. I'll wait for the perennially-disappointing show in Redmond in Feb.

I was looking at a Jerrys wholesale add for black guns and it seems the dealers are paying right near $1000 a piece for them. Then the markup looks to be about $300. Just before the panic you could buy the same gun from a store for $850.

If they restock at the high prices and nobody buys then their business is going to suffer badly.

I was at the Portland gun show and I didn't notice prices being too low. The gun show itself was really overpriced and I did not go the second day. Also, certain guns seem to sell really fast. And I saw people buying hording the military surplus ammo, like it was made out of gold or something. I was just ready to buy some .308 German surplus ammo when another guy quickly paid him and grabbed it from me :cuss:.

But the buying frenzy may taper off for now. But, don't worry when Obama starts to address the AWB issue, the frenzy will be like never before.

Me too, I stopped by that show today at the Expo Center. Ammo for my caliber (.357 magnum) was scarce, and what was there was ridiculously over-priced. I ended up walking out empty handed. Although, I did see a couple nice deals on some Rock Island 1911's. I ended up popping over to the other side of the freeway to go to the Place To Shoot just to pickup some .357 JSP rounds to plink with at the range. That's about all they had. GI Joes in the same neighborhood had nothing. That was my first gun show...I was just curious, and wanted to handle a few .45's to see what felt comfortable. There were several RIA 1911's that were rather enticing and nicely priced. But, I'm a southpaw, unfortunately. 1911's feel great in my hand, but they're built for right-handers.

Actually there were deals to be had at the gun show. You just cant be a surplus/ black rifle guy. lets just say I picked up a few boxes of rem cor-lokt 180gr 30-06 for $12 a box and some 270 wsm for $22. Those are deals.

I also located some 30-06 federal premium with sierra gameking 165 and 180gr loads for $15 a box today, this was not at the gun show.

Same thing in the last 2 shows I've been to in S Fl. People that were buying were buying mostly pistols.

The number of shops that are price guoging(sp) right now is unreal. I will be the first to laugh in there face when they are forced to close up shop. It will be sweet justice. I mean, really, what dumba$$ is going to pay $13.00 for a box of .223 wolf (no, not the Wolf Gold either)

Guitarslinger46 ,

1911's are actually one of the most left handed friendly guns out there. Just throw on an ambi and you are good to go. Slide and mag releases are easy to operate.

Gun Sales

I built an AR just before the elections and it only cost me about $750 in parts. I was at the Portland Expo center show Saturday and Sunday. I saw tons of AR's going for double what I built mine for. Prices have gotten ridiculous! Ammo price have also gotten crazy. Even crappy Wolf ammo was selling for $300 buck per 1k. Holy :cuss:. Although I did manage to find 1k of FMJBT bullets for reloading at $70 per 1k. Which is pretty decent even before the elections.

I have to agree with all on this thread. The gun sales will taper off in the next 6-9 months, due to speculation coming to an end. Obama needs to build confidence in the economy and putting gun manufactures out of business is not exactly the right way to do it.

Oh, and Yes, we will hold on to our guns and religion when everyone else is killing each other for food scraps.
