I've heard of google's bias against guns before, but I never saw it so blatantly displayed as I did today. I was doing some research for an article about gun control laws, when I did a search for John Lott. All of the entries, including his website and the Wikipedia entry for him were marked as harmful to my computer, and google would not let me navigate to the page.

You see a screenshot of the search results and read more about it at my blog.

Has anyone else experience bias against guns by google?

I just did a search for the Brady Campaign and got the same harmful warnings. Also got the same thing for Pandora this morning.

How funny! I just did a search this morning (about 5 minutes ago) for "Tanner Gun Show Denver" and got the same thing on every gun-related site listed.

What a load of crap. It was relatively easy to get around. I deleted the double-address in the address bar and pasted the web address in the address bar and it worked fine.

Why can't they just mind their own damn business?

THR is blocked. I just got this response also this morning. Their links to explain their reasons for blocking sites such as this one do not work.

I just did a search on google for John Lott and got no warnings whatsoever. The links took me right to the pages.

Went back and did a search for thr. Although it wasn't first, it listed the site and took me to it.

This website I don't have a problem with them calling it a malicious site. :D

Google has currently a Error.

no matter what site you search, it is allways flaged as maleware.

search for anything else, try it.

Yeah, you're right. I got the same thing. I use google a lot and that is the first time I have seen that; I have never been "not" allowed to view a website. Is something fishy, or is google messed up?

Ok, forget that last post. Every search does that. No need to panic...everything is fine.

"harmful to your computer" What a lie! Why can't they be honest and say, "We Don't Like Guns and neither should you"?

It appears Google has gone a bit wacky this morning, unless you want to take the position that Google has a bias against raccoons, tasty nachos and Google itself.

But don't go letting facts get in the way of your righteous indignation.

Maybe they rerouted all searches thru China and got caught in their censor filters.

Whew, paranoia was really just starting to set it when I read this thread. Glad it's just a Google glitch. For the record, I hate racoons.... <g>

wow... this is funny. I've been trying to do studies on google all morning and have just been copying/pasting links into my address bar because everything is flagged as malware.

A few minutes ago I tried to google something work related. Got the google problem for everything i tried.

Glad i decided to drop in here for a bit. I thought maybe i had a virus. It's happening to everyone, apparently. It's a relief to know it's not just me lol.

No doubt they'll have it up and running shortly.

Those warnings are very possibly not from Google bias as much as from the site being unjustly reported as having distrubuted malware. I emailed John Lott to point out the problem and possible solution for him.

Or, you know, Google could just be broken as pointed out earlier in the thread and Lott could just wait it out as I'm sure the millions of lovers of nachos are certainly doing.

Now that we've figured out that it isn't a Google conspiracy to stop people from going to gun sites, I'm going to go ahead and close this one. If you want to discuss the Google conspiracy to prevent the world from learning about raccoons and hamburgers, head on over to APS. ;)
