A friend picked up a Bursa 380 and I found that if you slam the mag home the open slide falls forward to what seems to be a half cock position.

Is this normal or is there a problem with the gun. It is new in box and I want him to get off to a good start.

Thanks

Well we went to the range and I found out how it worked.

With the safety on and slide back, if you pushed the mag in, with a round in it, the slide went forward and the hammer follows to the safety position which is a condition where the hammer is forward to a half cock position something like a 45. You can then operate the gun like a double action if you take the safety off. The trigger will engage and the hammer will go back and fire with the pull of the trigger.

If the safety was off and you push the mag in (with a round in it), the hammer stays back and the gun is ready to go from the full cock position.

There has to be a round in the mag for this to happen.

Different from a lot of other guns I am familiar with.

The factory considers this a "feature" not a problem. If it only does it when you slap in the magazine a bit hard it should be ok. If the slide releases really easily then you might want to have a gun smith look at it.

Go to bersa.com and ask away. Those guys know everything about these excellent guns...one of the best buys on the market. :D
