I am wanting to get a 1911. I have talked to a lot of people and heard a lot of advice. I have been shooting others guns and like the Springfield Mil Spec, Taurus, and Colts. However I would like to stay around the $700 range for my first gun so that limits me to the Springfield and Taurus.

I would like to hear others thoughts about some good reliable guns in the $700 price range.

Thanks!!

You can always buy used. Yes, there is a risk of getting a lemon that someone dumped. Or getting one that Dremel Dan tinkered on. But, I own four stainless Series I Kimbers, 500 for one, 625 for another, and I think the other two were 650. My stainless Colt 1991A1 cost me 525. A parkerized springer mil-spec (not the GI) was under 450 OTD. All used, LNIB. All of them run (or ran) flawlessly. I traded the Colt and the Springer.

Since single stack 1911s only hold seven or eight rounds, the prices aren't Obomafied like ARs, AKs, etc, and the good deals on used guns are still good deals. You just gotta find them.

I have a stainless Mil-Spec and its been really reliable. I have the 5" model and it's really nice to have "real" 1911 after owning this model my desire for the beaver tails and the other gadgets has certainly diminished. I don't think you'll regret buying a SA pistol either their customer service is very good.

I like my Springfield. I have never had any problems it runs great. I hear opinions back and forth all the time, I don't think any modern factory has the attention to detail it did years ago. Seems like every maker is letting out more lemons than they used to. I have never had to send a gun back but I would not have a problem doing so if there was a problem. Springfield has a good reputation for customer service. Bill

The Springfield MilSpec is one of the best values in pistols. I think very highly of mine. My Colt 1991A1 is slightly better fitted, but in terms of accuracy or reliability they are equals and the MilSpec has a slightly better trigger.

Resale on the Springfield will be higher because the name carries more respect in the firearm community but from a service standpoint the "extras" on the Taurus make it a more comfortable shooting gun. The beavertail grip safety protects the web of the hand from pinching which is common for mil-spec 1911s, and the 2 dot straight 8 sight system of the Taurus is far better than the mil-spec iron sights.

I've had a stainless steel Milspec for about 15 years and its been flawless. Accurate for a stock gun also. No worries, Springfield has very good CS if you need it.

They're both the best the Brazilian firearms industry has to offer . . .
I guess springer still uses frames cast in brazil eh? Nothing really wrong with that. Id get the mil-spec.
