I'm going to go get my CCW next month, so I figure I should get a better way to carry my Glock 26 than just sticking it in my pocket.

Anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking I'd want an IWB holster. When I was looking at holsters at a gun show today, I asked to see an IWB holster that would fit, and the lady asked me if I wanted a left-handed one to put inside my pants on the right side, or a right-handed one to put in the small of my back. I'd never really thought of carrying it in the small of my back, but things that immediately came to mind were

Carrying in small of back:

- would probably be harder to get to if I needed it

- would probably be better concealed being behind me

- wouldn't make me lopsided like having it on my right side would

- It would be kinda nice to have a right-handed holster with the barrel cut out that I could use for my Glock 26 IWB on my back and maybe use for my Glock 34 OWB on my side.

I just wondered what other people's thoughts were and if they had any particularly good holster suggestions.

Thanks!

I like Galco IWB Summer Comfort and Concealed Carry IWB holsters. The Deep Cover Concealed Carry really lets the gun ride low, which makes me feel a bit more secure.

PS.. get a good gun belt.

I would suggest a ridged IWB holster as it will permit easy out and easy back in which soft holsters don't. You will need to adjust your belt to make it feel comfortable and still keep it in place.

Tostada, do a search on small of back holsters. Many people including me have thought better of that idea because of some spine issues encountered by some who've used them.

If you want one you can use interchangeably with your two Glocks, check out Crossbreed. I own two and they're comfortable.

I understand what you're saying about the lop-sided feeling but I haven't had a problem with it in the 10 or so years I've been carrying Glocks IWB. Make sure you wear a good quality belt.

Comp-tac offers a variety of good holsters. Their Infidel model allows you to select from a number of different IWB mounts. They have OWB holsters and other models of IWB as well. I have Comp-Tacs for almost all of my guns including the Glock 26. They are relatively affordable and their turnaround on shipping is about 10 days. I recommend them. Their web site is comp-tac.com.

I personally think SOB carry is a bad idea. If you should land on your back it will slam into your kidney or spine. Very painful, and potentially debilitating.

My holster selection is the Glock sportster. I find IWB to be very uncomfortable (I am "Portly", or in the common vernacular fat). The ~$14.00 Glock holster holds the weapon close to the body and high. I find that an un-tucked shirt works well for concealment (Flannel or 5.11 in winter, Hawaiian in summer). I also have a Fobus paddle for all of my guns ( Glock 19, Glock 26, Glock 29, and Browning Hi Power), for quick on and off if necessary. I round that out with a DeSantis Nemisis pocket holster for the 26. I find that this pretty well covers me, and I carry every day.

Don Hume makes an affordable IWB holster with a spring steel clip. It is easy to take on and off. The Galco Summer Comfort is also a good way to go, but double the cost (I have and use both) The Don Hume has a straight cant to it so you can wear it behind your hip strong side, appendix strong side, or cross draw. Small of Back Holsters are good for deep concealement, but in addition to the spinal issues mentioned above, it is nearly impossible to access when seated, especially if wearing a seatbelt.

Do what I did go to a shop with a good selection, and try them on with a "blue gun" see what fits and go from there. Either way you'll probably end up with a box of holsters in the long run. Good luck and be safe!

That Cross Breed one looks pretty nice, although it sure is big.

Everybody seems to like those Nemesis holsters for pocket carry. I can fit the G26 in the front pocket of all my jeans. Still wondering if that's a good idea, though. I supposed I'd also like to get a Fobus one for OWB and range use.

+1 to the posts concerning getting knocked on your azz with a SOB holster. You can hurt yourself bad by falling on the gun.

I think a good cheap place to start for a Glock is, the Glock plastic Combat holster.

They are cheap, durable, sweat-proof, provide good weapon retention, a fast draw, hold the gun close to your body, weigh next to nothing, and they fit any belt.

They are as good as it gets for an inexpensive first holster while you take time to find something you like better.

I've concealed-carried for a number of years and managed to fill up a rather large box with holsters. The best holster I've found for my Glock G26 is a RM Lowrider IWB kydex holster. It works great in a 2 o'clock appendix position - provides quick weapon access even when seated or driving. I also use the GAP floorplate on my carry magazine. In addition to providing a very secure grip without lengthening the grip, the GAP floorplate helps in weapon presentation.

Glock Sport Combat Holster is excellent for the money. Will fit other Glock models and is also ambidextrous. Another good idea is a SmartCarry. I also had good experience with some of the less expensive offerings from High Noon Holsters.

I like the FIST #1AK ultra-thin Kydex IWB, was the first good holster I bought for my 27 last year, cost about $40, looks kind of cheaply made but it certainly isn't. Gun snaps right into place and draws easily, no tugging like with leather, but it also is quite secure, sooooo small and slim. wear the gun slightly ahead of or behind your 3 O'clock to avoid looking lumpy. With a little gun like the 26 and a tight holster like the FIST (I don't think i've seen a thinner holster before) you won't be nearly as bulgy as you fear. I carried my 27 all summer in relatively slim t-shirts with that holster, invisibility feels good.

The FIST order form is a little funny, you need to fill out everything manually, but they are a good company and if you have questions they can't immediately answer they will have the owner call you right back.

I'm currently using a Fobus Kydex paddle holster for my G26. I'd steer clear of it. Seems to rub/poke me in all the wrong areas regardless of carry position. Is also really tight so, while the gun isn't going anywhere, it's not easy to get out of the holster unless it's attached to your belt and you yank the heck out of it. Also seems to lean out and away from the belt making concealment more difficult. Part of that may be from my department store 1 1/2" belt not being supportive enough.

When money permits, I'm going to go with a custom leather holster with a matching gun specific belt. Hopefully it will work better.

I carried my 1911 Compact in a SOB holster years ago. Concealed really well for me since I was wearing a flannel shirt 90% of the time anyway. I think there are better options now since:

-injury may result if you take a fall
- most ranges/classes that allow drawing from a holster won't let you use one making live fire practice difficult.
-no access when seated
-concealment not so good if you are wearing most shirts
-you may be "showing" and not realize it since you can't see it.

I second FIST. I also like the #1A, but it is quite a bit thicker. I plan on getting the #1AK (ultra thin kydex) for my G26, IWB.

Also have a glock sport holster that will be here saturday. :)

I wish I could get a C-TAC and MTAC pair made with FIST's Ultra-thin Kydex. That stuff is perfect to me, and I lvoe the way it felxes just enough that the gun snaps smartly out with a deliberate draw. A slow pull and it doesn't go anywhere, a sharp, fairly light draw and it just flies into position. I can't wait to get home again so I can carry again, being in Maryland right now is making me feel funny. Two weeks to graduation!

I just picked up a Glock sport/combat holster and like it better than any for a glock, great for CC and saw some pics where people convert them to IWB. cheap @ $11.

Yeah the sport/combat holster is amazing, so simple and cheap but so effective. I love mine.

Carrying in small of back:

If you have even a semblance of a derriere, SOB carry makes it look like you're an incontinent who eats a steady diet of all-corn bricks.

I personally use an Ace Case holster from Cheaper than Dirt. They're only $7-12 and they carry very low (almost like you just tucked the gun in your waistband.

I think the best mode of carry is strong side carry in a thin kydex holster like the Raven Phantom holster. I carry my M&P this way and I am very satisfied with it.

I don't know if there's any perfect solution. Of course, the problem is that you usually can't tell how well a holster is going to work until you've worn it for a while. I have a couple belt holsters that I only use at the range due to concealability concerns. One thing to remember is that many IWB holsters are not tuckable, which limits your wardrobe options. Personally, I usually wear my shirts tucked, so a tuckable IWB seems to make the most sense to me. I have two IWB tuckables, which I wear at 4 o'clock.

My IWBs are a Galco Ultra Deep Cover tuckable and a Milt Sparks Versamax (also tuckable). The Galco is super easy to use, and is pretty much undetectable (apart from the bulge of the weapon). It's very easy to put on and take off, so I wear it most often. The Milt Sparks is a beautiful piece of work. I use the Kydex clips. It is also almost impossible to detect and offers a somewhat flatter profile. I'd wear it all the time, except that its Kydex clips are incredibly tight, making it a bit of an ordeal to attach to your waistband; if there's a magical trick I haven't figured it out, so it takes me two or three minutes of funbling to get it attached. The Kydex clips are an option--the standard holster comes with black belt loops, but I feel that the loops compromise concealment.

I don't have any personal experience with SOB holsters, but I've heard plenty of people caution against them. I'd seriously consider something else. If you're going to get an IWB, I'd think pretty seriously about a tuckable holster.
