Alternative to the surefire light forends?

Winchester 1300 defender in that pic?

If it is, I don't know how in the hell you deal with that side saddle. Mine kept on spinning off cause there's only one nut that holds it into place... I finally just got rid of it and used the stock reciever pin.
I have the same stock, and I absolutley love it, but every time I want to clean the gun I need to rotate the pistol grip by loosening the allen screw to get the trigger group out..

I think what I'm trying to say is, nice gun!

Do you have any other pictures of the light? I too am looking for something similar without spending 250$...

The various rail mounted LED weaponlights (Streamlight TLR-1, Insight SSL-1, etc) are a good option for shotguns IMHO. You can get one for about $100 and a simple rail to mount it for less than $20.

Don't forget that batteries are subject to recoil as well as bulbs. If a light isn't designed for use on a heavy-recoiling weapon, the batteries will batter it to the point either the light or the batteries stop working over time. Recoil is hard on the filaments in incandescent bulbs also, which is why LEDs tend to hold up better. And another advantage of the rail mounted lights is that they are easily removed for daytime practice, which avoids unnecessary recoil battering.

I use the Streamlight mount with a Streamlight M3 on my 870 and am happy with it although may upgrade to an LED light at some point. I like the system because it can be easily removed if I'm using the gun for hunting or daytime practice.

My light is mounted to the left side of the magazine tube and the switch can be turned on and off with the thumb on my forward hand without moving my hand on the forend.

Surefire G2 + cap pressure pad = $50
Mounts for shotgun and light=$50

Not bad vs. the units you see for 150-200 bucks.

I've run into the same dilemma. I would hate to spend $370 plus for a light system that cannot be switched over to my pistol. I've heard mixed reviews on the Mako Group products, but then there are some who don't care for the Surefire forends as well. I had settled on getting a Mako forend, 1" picatinny mount, and a Fenix TK10, but I'm starting to have second thoughts. Can the Fenix (or the picatinny mount for that matter) handle the recoil of full-power buckshot from a 590?

One tried and true method, get a good tac light and use a bicycle innertube to affix it to the barrel. Not as pretty or cool as a dedicated light, but very functional.

I don't see how recoil could break an LED like it does a light element. I bet a Fenix flashlight would do fine as long as the electrical components can hold up to the beating.

brentn:
Its an 870 Express HD... side saddle has 2 screws that go all the way through and into the body of the saddle. I'll take some pictures of just the light tomorrow.

Thanks deepskyy

The front grip is what led me to believe it was a 1300 as it looks similar to the defender's front grip.
If mine had two screws I would have kept the side saddle :(

I look forward to the grips.

I've tried several different setups of lights on my 870 but the Surefire is the best. I finally broke down and put one on mine and only regret not having gotten it sooner instead of being cheap. E-mail these guys for the best price.
