These people make me chuckle,

They complain about how the government's response to Katrina was abysmal, but then expect them to implement a comprehensive system to register all guns.

These people make me chuckle,

Me too, they also make me angry.

Don't they know that gun laws are THE most racist laws still on the books?

Outlawed low cost guns, outlawed guns in the most violent inner cities, etc.

The people that NEED firearms the most to protect themselves are regularly denied and stuff like this just makes it worse for law abiding citizens.

Florida's only rep that supported this is Rep Hastings of Florida's 23rd district. It is one of the lefty enclaves in the state (Palm Beach)

Palm Beach facts:
56% Black
13% Hispanic non-black
29% Caucasian
(minorities usually vote left)
65% of registered voters are Democrats
20% of registered voters are Republicans
In 2000, 79% of voters in the district voted for Gore/Lieberman.
In 1996, 75% of voters in the district voted for Clinton/Gore.

Looking at the map, you can see how Gerrymandered the district is.

I was just in a Sportsmans warehouse in washington and saw a flyer up with this H.R. 45 on it, and after reading it i couldn't help but think that this bill would violate the Tihardt ( i hope i spelled that right) amendment.
Wouldn't they need to repeal the amendment before they could enact this?

Didn't Canada do this not too long ago? Wasn't it a massive boondoggle that was shown to have had absolutely ZERO impact on crime, and to cost billions of dollars? Yeah, good idea. :p

Remember our new President, his cabinet, Congress and House are liberial anti-gun Democrats.

It is appalling to use that poor kid's name to implement such legislation.

A selfless, heroic act reduced to an otherwise sad mistake.

Should I be surprised that an ex Black Panther member is now a representative for the state of Illinois ????!!!!?!?!?

Weren't the "panthers" a domestic terrorist organization in the '60's ?

This will go over well when they look at the numbers and how much money it will cost to implement it. Le's not forget that "databases" for firearms ownership have resulted in ZERO convictions.
\

Let's not forget that the real purpose of laws like this is gun registration, not criminal prosecution.

This is typical of "liberal" thinking, by restricting law abiding citizens , it will in someway affect the criminal use of anything, in particular FIREARMS. I liked and respected Barrak Obamma, but I would never vote for a Democrat/liberal, ever. If you enjoy your right to keep and bear arms, or any other of our civil rights, and you vote Democrat, you are not helping but hurting America. My view point on the difference between Conservative / Liberal is very simple:
Conservative; believes the Constitution and Bill of Rights mean exactly what they say, period.
Liberal; believes these documents open to interpretation, they can mean anything the Democrat law makers want them to.
If you own firearms and consider yourself a liberal or Democrat, you should seriously reconsider your actions in the political arena and how they are affecting your civil rights.
For those of you that dismiss this legislation, believe it will die in commitee, I hope you are right. But you must consider that we now have an anti-gun president and a Democraticaly controled House and Senate. We could all live to see the end to all legal gun ownership in the United States of America. When the right to have firearms goes, then others will follow, the 2nd Amendment guarantees all the others.
Just an afterthought to drive the point home: "Have you ever seen legislation like this bill from the desk of a Conservative / Republican"?
NO.

I DO NOT like or respected Barrak Obama.

He is not my President.

Watch our gun ownership rights melt.

Isnt it really nice to know that out country is trying to follow in the foot steps of NAZI Germany?

Its kind of sad I finially get to use this quote I have had for a while now.

I mean come on Im quoting Adolf Hitler here.

"This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead into the future!" - Adolf Hitler 1935

This is sad stuff to read.

What these anti-gun idiots don't realize (or MAYBE they do)......is that they themselves will in the future create a tremendous black-market in firearms transactions once they accomplish their goal. Yessiree. Unscrupulous dealers will be selling handguns & Mac-10's out of the trunks of cars to high school kids and there will be no record of sales. By that time the antis just MIGHT wish for the good old days when a guy HAD to be 21 and HAD to sign a piece of paper from a legitimate dealer holding a FFL.

Trust me, such days are possible. Look at prohibition.

In any case, I don't think mandatory national registration is even possible (to enforce effectively)

I am writing every congressman/woman involved in the committee for this bill. No loud gun talk, just a few facts and that nice Adolf Hitler quote. I don't want to see this county become a completely oppressive tyranny.

That would fall into the category of "Really Bad"

JD

The bill claims its purpose is "to protect the public against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of firearms to criminals and youth."

WHAT? Just, WHAT?!?!?!?!? Yeah because criminals and youth are going make sure and report their illegal sales to the government.

It would be nice if we could ex-communicate Illinois, New York, and California and allow those citizens living there to relocate anywhere in the US.... and even grant them a package to do it on the .gov's dime as their state and government failed them.

:)

Be easier if the rest of the states just decided to invade and annex :)

(8) an authorization by the applicant to release to the Attorney General or an authorized representative of the Attorney General any mental health records pertaining to the applicant;

Couldn't this depend on 'what' is in HR 1?
