I've walked away from buying a lot of guns I wanted. Who hasn't? But is there one special gun that just keeps gnawing at you for not buying it when you had the chance?

About 3 years back at a gunshow in Austin I came across a Ruger SP101 that had about every custom thing Weigand offered, done to it. It was so beautiful. Had a trigger that rivaled a buddy's Python. $600 and I passed. I'm still pissed at myself.

Dude... the list is immense!

I've kicked myself for passing up guns, ammo, accessories, components, etc. I'll have to think of the one most painful one and I'll post back with it.

Just a few weeks ago...

Was at my local range/gun shop, where a guy brought in an 8 year old unfired Marlin .44mag trapper to sell to the gun shop because he needed the money. I've been pining for one, though in .357mag, so before he did "the deal" with the shop, he told me he'd let me have it for $250. "Well, I dunno", I told myself. "Don't really need it. I wanted a .357. I hate buying on impulse, yadda yadda." Not 2 minutes later, the gun shop offered him $290 and it was gone.

I'll be :banghead: for a while.

A couple months ago I found a Russian SKS in my local toy shop for $275. I thought, "Wow, that seems like a great deal!" and walked out the door. Needless to say, it was gone quickly and I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up.

My words exactly!!

A couple weekends back at one of the local gun shows, I had the chance to buy a Slab Side Ruger MKII Tartet model new in box for $350. I already had one, but hey, it's a Slab Side Ruger MKII Target, they're classics and well worth more than $350.

So I walked around the show mulling it over and finally decided to get it. I had been thinking about it for 30 minutes, but that was all it took...it was gone...some other lucky patron ended up with it. I certainly hope he enjoys it as much as I enjoy mine.

I had a Colt Match Ten (10mm 1911) in NEW condition for $500. Bought it, sold it for $450 to my brother, who I love and adore, but that scoundrel put an idiot mark on it. It was number 25 of 500 total Match Tens. He traded it for a beat up Rem 1100!!!! (I could kill him, but I love him, you know?)
I walked away from an M-1A Bush for $700 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
I walked away from a Luger Wheel for $1500.
I walked away from a real M1D in Va Beach for $1100.
Once, long, long ago, I walked away from this girl named Caroline, who stole my heart at age twelve. Still think about that M1D....

I can think of a couple off the top of my head. Gunshow about 4 years ago, FEG Hi-Power clone PJK-9HP, $200 with two 13rd mags NIB. Passed on it to look at other stuff, was gone when I came back ten minutes later.

Rock Island Armory 1911. $399, NIB two mags. Extremely nice trigger, nice finish.
Was gone when I went back to the shop the next day.

Heck, I can't even remember them all. I do remember one last year similar to
the one posted above - a Ruger slab side MKll for $360 and it had some extras. I walked around the show for 10 minutes, went back and it was gone. Same show had a Ruger 5 1/2" MK ll for $220. I should've gotten it.
I know I've passed on worse than that but can't remember them all.

I have walked away from a truck load of nice guns, you can't buy them all.My most recent was a 34-1 nickle with box and papers.

Not a handgun, but I passed on a S&W Model 1000S Super Skeet shotgun. This was a limited edition shotgun that was specially designed and purpose built just for skeet. Along with an extra field barrel, the retail price would have been around $900 back in 1982. A couple of years ago I came across one, like new in the box, along with the extra barrel, for $380. Too good to be true? Yeah, I should have jumped on it right then and there. But no, I had to go home and research it so I didn't get "taken". I was sure it would still be there at the next show. Yeah, right.

357 Ruger security six for 300 at a pawn shoot in Ar, thought i couldnt buy it cause i am a KY res but found out later that i could have

Yes, I had a few of those times, but the one that stands out was the LNIB condition BHP Capitan model for $400 at the show some years back. I walked away because the ATM was a few blocks away outside the building and it was too cold outside. Dumb, dumb... :(

The list is so long that I could hijack this thread and run away with it, but there is one that comes to mind.

It was a 45/70 caliber street-sweeper looking thing that was called the "Lady's Home Companion". Yes, it was brand new and the instructions that were with it referred to it as The Lady's Home Companion.
I passed even though it was so cheap that I could have bought it on a lark, but it didn't seem terribly practical to me at the time.
Still, I think back on it and wished I would have grabbed it for no other reason than that the Clintons would never have been able to sleep again knowing that the thing was out there and in someone's hands.

Here's a pic I grabbed off the 'net:

The one that always comes back to me is a boxed set of Colt's. It was a Anaconda and a Python with sequential serial numbers. At the time I wasn't as big into handguns and passed on them to by a Springfield SAR which got sold 3 or 4 years later

My story is turned around a little bit....I did take my Beretta 92fs to a gun show last year to sell it. I didn't get an offer for what I asked. Now I am so glad I still have it and would not sell it at all. Sometimes you end up better with a little patience!

I owned two Savage 24 o/u shotgun/rifle combos. One was a 40's model often sought 22lr over .410. I also had a later 60's model 22WMR/20 gauge. I kept the 20 gauge and sold the 410 for $235. I made profit on it, but I sure wish I had it back. I should have kept it if only for nostalgic resaons.

O well!

I'm with milkmaster here. Passed on a savage 24F in 223/12 guage. Shouldn't have, I've never found another one.

Since this is a handgun thread, here's a twist- If any of you have a Smith 696 you want to let go, we need to talk.:D
