A have a few stripped lowers in my collection. I am going to build an AR-15 for my father and have come upon this problem. Looking into the crystal ball, which would hold more value, after the forthcoming ban:

1) Two CMMG stripped lowers with consecutive serial numbers

2) S&W stripped lower

I can either break the consecutive serial numbers up and build his gift with a CMMG lower or use one of my S&W lowers. What should have more value?

Opinions?

A lower is pretty much a lower. You might find someone who considers consecutive S/N's desirable, but that's even assuming under a hypothetical ban that you can legally transfer two uppers to someone, that they're legal to actually build a rifle with, etc.

no offense, but to me words mean things, and I personally don't like a defeatist attitude among fellow pro2a people...

do what you want, but one day maybe you too will learn that words mean things and you can't take them back once spoken, or written, and I tend to speak about things I want to happen, not things I don't want to happen...

I'm realistic, speaking in hypotheticals is ok to protect your interests, but throwing around terms like forthcoming ban are not in your best interests, or mine, which is the only reason I even said anything about it...

As to your post, I say do whatever you think your father would want/appreciate, if he doesn't care, I wouldn't break up a set unless I had a reason to, not that it has any more value, but that's just the way I think...

Karz

When the hypothetical usage of "forthcoming ban" is based upon information gained by keeping abreast of the actions of those who are not for keeping the 2nd Amendment as-is, it is in my best interest to remain realistic and not hope that a hypothetical prediction is viewed as having a defeatist attitude.

To each his own, just sharing an opinion. You don't go to Vegas talking about what you're gonna do when you lose, you don't compete in sports talking about your next loss, even though it's always a possibility, even if you're playing a better team. Just a different way of looking at things, I guess.

I'm informed, I just try not to give those that oppose me or my interests the power of my own words. Not trying to make a big deal about it, but I've found words to be powerful things in my life, thought I'd try to share some hope and positivity.

Still think it's cool what you're doing for/with your dad, wish I had a common interest like that.

Karz

karz10: Although my interest in guns is still fairly recent, despite being middle-aged, I've never looked up a simple way to write to my Congressman or Senator about any issues, unless furnished in a letter mailed to me. It's embarassing.

It's always good to see that most people with a common interest/goal can accept different useages of words or phrases. It has been my overall impression that the vast majority of people on gun websites have much more in common than is sometimes first apparent.

Mini 14, 30, SKS and two MN 44s (all bought since Oct '07) + ancient Savage .22.
Wish I had been informed years ago and had bought an AK-47 'type', just to exercise our rights.
