"Pre-Owned" SIG P239

Greetings! First-time user here, and a gun newbie.

Can someone tell me if $599 is a good deal on a used SIG P239?

I have no information on the gun, haven't seen it in person, but I know that SIGs have a great track record and I want something for CCW. I'm looking at a possible trip to California this summer and the 8 round mag easily meets their requirements.

What questions should I ask the sales rep when I go in to check out the gun? ie: Why did the previous owner sell it? How many rounds has it cycled?...

...what else?

Thanks for your reply. Because I've heard that SIGs have excellent re-sale value, $599 didn't really turn me off too much. But your point about the warranty is valid, something I didn't think about.

As far as guns breaking, true story: a local gun range where I live doesn't have any SIGs for rental. I asked why. He said, "they're all BROKEN."

SIGs...broken???

I was told that yeah, no matter how well the staff maintains those guns, after many thousands of rounds, sooner or later that gun's gonna break. Even a SIG. And because the manufacturer is overwhelmed with orders, I doubt this particular range is gonna replenish their SIG rentals very soon.

I'd like to know if the SIG in question is a CPO. If so, then my interest level just spiked. Then again, I wonder how long it'll stay on the shelf. They can't sell guns fast enough it seems.

Btw, I found a range that has a P239 rental and plan to test it tomorrow. For me it's always try before you buy. The P229 is another option. Like I said, newbie, with no more than 7 hours of range time. Fired seven guns in my life, and best results were achieved with the XDm and SIG P226R, both in 9. But those were full-size models and I'd like something compact.

Those of you who own SIGs, tell me: how do lefties manage the hammer decocker? I'm left-handed and had to use my trigger finger on that P226r. I managed but it's a little awkward if you're not double-jointed. Thoughts?

Back from the range where I tested the P239 - this one with a Hogue grip, so make that TWO awesome experiences for me. Even though it's a relatively small gun, it has some muscle which takes the brunt of any recoil. And the trigger is simply AMAZING. I shot it well enough and felt confident enough to send the target back a few more yards (I never do that), and still shot well (for a noob).

I'm officially in love with SIGs.

Gotta get me one! Don't matter if it's a P239 or P229, long as it's a SIG.

One more thing...

Regarding that 239 I tested, the sight dots were pretty worn down (rear dot basically non-existent), plus signs of wear on the slide - proof that it's been "to Hell and back." I don't know how many thousands of rounds that thing fired. But I can attest that it *still* shoots accurately.
