Hey all,

I read these forums alot but until today I had no reason to post anything.. However I took my Ruger 10/22 out earlier today which I haven't done in a while and it has been driving me nuts all day.

I couldn't pull the bolt back, I tried for a half hour messing with the bolt release but it didn't seem to do anything (my 10/22 is 100% factory). I took the gun apart, which I haven't done in years, and stripped it down to every individual part, cleaned it, oiled it and put the trigger back together.

I put the bolt back in the upper receiver and it slides back and forth fine, but as soon as I put in the trigger assembly and replace the pins it will not move back an inch again... (Tried it with the bolt release completely removed - same thing)

If I take the front pin out, it kicks the trigger assembly up a bit then slides back. It's probably something stupid but apparently its smarter than I am.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

bolt release but it didn't seem to do anything
The release is to lock the bolt rearward after locking the bolt rearward with the release it is used to release the bolt forward. The bolt release is for locking the bolt rearward it plays no part of the rearward movement of the bolt. It moves in a weird way to lock and unlock the bolt but it is easy to get to work so I think your issue is assembly.
Try pushing forward on the mag release. If it won't go forward your issue is with the mag button in the mag well. During assembly it needs to be pushed in a little until the pin goes through the slot on the button and the button must move freely. If the pin is not right the parts go in but the bolt is stuck and the mag release doesn't work. This is why the bolt moves when the trigger group is removed. Get an after market release much easier to work with.
Also give rimfirecentral a look all 10/22 info is held there. :)
