upgraded my M1As

The lack of experience with and understanding of the modernized M14 by
some here is reflected by their use of derogatory comments.
The traditional configuration is pretty and fun in the beginning, but some of
us out grow the traditional and move forward with the modern configuration.

I started out with the M1 Garand, transitioned to the M14 and upgraded to
the M14 EBR and MK14 with no regrets. Live and learn.

natescout, you mentioned a weaver style scope mount for your EBR.
Have you looked at the SPR-E LT-139 pictured below? It's from LaRue.
It's mounted backwards and rings are built-in.

What about the LT608 also from LaRue.
Rings are extra.

And then there's the M14DCSB from SAGE.
Rings are extra.

You have several options :D

Hey y'all shoot what you like and spend your money how you see fit. I just like the classic wood stock. I still shoot bolt actions and revolvers as well. Maybe it was having an M14 as a DM, I am partial. I find the wood more asthetically pleasing. Your rifles do look cool though.

Huh?

The traditional configuration is pretty and fun in the beginning, but some of us out grow the traditional and move forward with the modern configuration.

How is that not derogatory, in and of itself?

IOW, does having a "traditionally configured" M14NM mean I haven't grown up yet? :scrutiny:

BRB. Popping a bowl of popcorn, because I really would love to hear that explained to me and my former NRA High Power trophy winner. I never had anybody at Camp Perry tell me I needed to outgrow it...

Well I have LOVED EVERY M1A that has been posted so far. And as NateS posted , everyone should own more then one M1A --- I like/own a wood stocked full size and a shorter bush/scout/socom size. If I could afford it , I'd get one of them SA Whitefeather's --- that is on my "wish list" !!!!

You don't "outgrow the traditional".
You make a reasoned decision based on criteria set by your values.
I tend to identify with traditional values, so my criteria are colored thusly. Progress, IMO, sometimes ain't.

I admit that calling your guns knuckle bustin' metrosexuals might have been construed as derogatory in some quarters. Like the bowling alley.

And I don't believe the "modernized M14" has a stronger advocate than H20Man. I've been reading these posts for years. And for a while, I thought you did indeed have the coolest rifle guns. I guess I've lived and learned.

But I don't believe your version of the M14 is the pinnacle of rifle perfection, nor displays more mature values or experience, though you may have both on me.

What does make sense is a tritium front post. If you haven't used these sights in low light yet...

It's a sad day when M1A owners started beating each other up over how they dress their rifle. Wood, plastic or metal it's still the M1A/M14, that never changes.
Is one better than the other, only a day at the range well tell.
My personal preference is wood, the aluminum stocks feel cold to me. I like my space guns small and light.

H2O MAN, which mount you like most, can i get my scope back far enough to get good eye relief ?

All 3 allow you to move the optic back over the heel for proper eye relief and
the SAGE mount gives you 1" of added rail that may allow you to use an ACOG.

I strive for enhanced reliability and accuracy... the combination of SEI building
the barreled action and my installing the actions in SAGE EBRs exceeds my needs.
I once had a real nice custom bedded NM rifle that I replaced with EBRs and MK14s... I won't go back to traditional NM mods.

Are you team captain?

Hey H2O Man, regarding that awesome picture you posted where a SOCOM 16/EBR/SE muzzle brake/Gas lock was being used by US Military, are SOCOM 16s US Mil contract rifles now...???? I thought all they had was M14, M14 DMR, and M14 Scouts with EBRs, and of course, the US Navy has the Smith Enterprise EBR Mod O. Interesting.

Btw, I got my $44 SAGE clip base rear sight mount. It installs very easily, and it is rock solid and tight, and aligns perfectly with the front rails of the EBR stock. I am going to test it on the range today. I emailed ARMS Inc about the fractured ARMS #18 mount screw (which fractured when firing), I didn't hear jack from them. :fire:

There are no military SOCOM 16s and none planned. The picture was of the SOCOM 16 muzzle device kit that SEI makes for the civilian market.

Our military uses M14s & M14 EBRs with 22.0" and MK14s with 18.0" barrels.

I'm sorry about your ARMS customer no-service experience and I'm glad the SAGE mount is working for you.
