AK peep sight?

Copes may have had a Beryl-style rail at one point, too, but the nice (as in probably better and definately more expensive) one is on www.krebscustom.com.

Law27, how is the dustcover removed for field stripping? I can see that the dustcover is modified or proprietary, but what's the procedure for a field-strip?

Mike

I can't wait for the AK Tech-Sights. I hope that the new dust cover will come with the otion of black, instead of the flat gray. I would like my saiga to stay black!

Simple- I don't have any reason to think it wouldn't, I just wanted to double check as I'm considering going this route for an optics mount.

I second this. Something I noticed is that little protrusion behind the ejection port. Is that a shell deflector? If so, does it dent the empties like the stock dustcover does?

Mike,
The cover is attached to the sight base with spring detent pins that engage holes at the lower rear corners of the cover. These can be depressed with a cartridge tip or pointed object. Once the cover is removed the sight is easily slid ahead and out of the receiver. Reassemble in reverse order.

The picture shows the cover with Parkerized finish. As most of you know manganese phosphate color varies from medium gray to charcoal gray dependiing on the steel alloy being finished. Our main concern was to provide a Parkerized finish because of corosion risistance over say a black oxide which may be very black but provide very little metal protection.

How does the recoil assembly fit into all this? The pic of it in the latest Gun Digest ( for the milling machine company) indicates a non-standard recoil assembly..

Our sight base is integrated into the rear portion of the recoil assembly. You replace the rear section of your recoil assembly that normally engages the tee slot and reassemble the recoil assembly into the action. install the replacement cover, zero the weapon and you are good to go. The pressure of the recoil spring keeps the the sight seated into the machined surfaces of the tee slot keeping it in the same repeatable position. We have a scew in the base that can be adjusted to take up the side play if necessary. The tee slot size varies from AK make to make so the adjustment screw may or may not be needed on every rifle. The great thing is that it is simple, rugged and only adds to the AK design with out taking anything away from the AK. Sort of "Yankee ingenuity" integrated into the dependable Russian design.

Did I miss the cost? If not, then what is the approximate cost?

By the way I like my mojo sights better than the stock ones but this looks like one of the best AK upgrades I have ever seen.

VERY INTERESTED.

I keep checking the TechSight website but still not available. Any idea when these will hit the market? I'd like to take my newly-converted Saiga to an Appleseed shoot but I hate stock AK sights. I really want to test the new TechSight. HURRY !!!!

I got an e-mail from the Tech-sights people:

Dear BTR,
Thank you for the interest in Tech-SIGHTS. We expect to be shipping the AK sights about the 3rd week in May. The price will be in the $100-125 dollar range. The sights will be available in two models. One with a flip dual aperture giving long and short range apertures but not being elevation adjustable at the rear sight and one with a elevation adjustable aperture allowing the and elevation both at the rear. Both models will be windage adjustable at the rear sight.
Best regards,
Larry

These look good, can't wait to get a set. I expect it should make shooting my AK just that much easier and fun.

MOJO peep sights are not hard to install. i have them on my WASR. I think Im a little less accurate with the peep sights, but they are fast.

for the price of some of the nicer sights you can just add a little more on top and get a kobra red dot.
