Minimum Number of Guns a Gunperson Should Have

hi im new to this forum, could someone please explain to me how to post a thread?

Kind of equates to "what is the minimum amount of freedom a person should have?" The minimum ( and the maximum) number of guns a gunperson should have is the amount they choose to. Not what the state, the feds, or some politico says.

Why dictate what people should have?

I say as long as it has a lock, stock, and barrel it is good enough. I don't care in what it's chambered be it .950 JDJ or .17 HMR.

just because the gun safe has a max. capacity doesn't mean you can't put in more than that and I don't think it will void the warranty

I have an ex wife that was once asked how many guns I owned,...her response was something to the effect of ...."I don't know,...and if I ever find out,...I'll shoot the SOB with the last one he brought home...."

You should own as many as you can afford to. No more No Less...

If you can buy 50 then own 50
If you can only buy 1 & 1 is better than None.

I have 4 Rifles and 2 Pistols

3, a .22 rifle, a 12 bore shotgun, and a 9mm handgun. After that maybe .22 handgun and a .223 rifle.

There is no minimum because there is no maximum.

Agreed with respect to the original poster's list - I'm just missing the .270 rifle aspect, otherwise I have the list covered.

A large caliber handgun (probably revolver)

A semi-auto SHTF rifle
A 22 semi-auto rifle
A large game hunting rifle

Currently, I have a Ruger P89 (9mm), a Ruger 10/22, a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge, a hand-me-down Over/Under 12 gauge and a Kahr PM9 en route.

I'd like to acquire a Sig 556, but on my pocketbook it's looking more like a Ruger Mini 14.

I was living in VA when they passed that stupid "one gun a month" legislation.

About three later my wife found out that you did not have to buy a gun a month to keep your elgibility. Boy was she pissed?

One gun that they know how to use.
Regarding being a "gunperson," in my opinion, the know how to use is 80%, the owning one gun is 20%.
Being a hobbyist with 200 guns with little to no skill in their use does not make one a "gunperson," in my opinion.

I own probably 70 firearms. If I had to sell all but one, I would still consider myself a gunperson. I know how to use them all. In the last 5-6 years, I have not let 4 consecutive days go by without firing at least 50 rounds out of at least one firearm, usually it is more like 100-300 rounds. I compete. I train. I train others. I study. I train more on what I learned. I could do all that with one gun. That is being a gunperson, in my opinion.

It should be law that everyone has to own at least 100 firearms. Right now I'm down by 22.

My buddies wife was ragging on him for buying a new shotgun. To shut her up he promised he wouldn't buy anymore guns for the rest of the year. The date was december 29th.

She didn't catch that for three days.

Here are the slots I set out to fill in my collection and what I've filled them with. I'm almost done.
1. Service/Combat Pistol: .45 1911
2. Compact Pistol: XD 9sc
3. Service/Hiking Revolver: 5" GP100 .357
4. Magnum/Hunting Revolver: 5.5" Bisley .45LC
5. Plinker: Walther P22

Rifles:
1. Personal Protection/TEOTWAWKI: Romanian AK
2. Small Game/Plinking: Marlin Bolt Action (scoped) .22 and Ruger 10/22 (red dot)
3. MBR: M1 Garand (On the way!)
4. Big Game hunting: Nothing dedicated yet, though the M1 or 1903 would suffice in a pinch.

I only have one slot left to fill, and I think I'll go with 2. A long range .30 caliber rifle, and a 45/70 in either a single shot or a Marlin lever action.

As for a minimum...for me I would say a .22 rifle, a middle of the road centerfire handgun (Something between a Ruger LCP and a S&W 500), and a centerfire rifle would be sufficient for anything one is likely to need a gun to do.

Personally I've got way more than I need, but not as many as I want.

compact carry handgun in .38 spl. or larger
service size handgun in same caliber as compact
.22lr rifle
12 ga. pump gun
.243 or larger centerfire rifle or pistol caliber rifle in same caliber as pistols

That number doesn't exist as you can always add one more to the collection. Right now I have 19 and would have no problem doubling that if I had the cash.

The minimum is one more than you have...
