I have just purchased my first SP101. Have had a Security Six and a Redhawk. Happened across this pistol and LOVE IT! I was between this and a S&W Snubbie and couldn't pass the SP101 up. Mine is a 3-inch barrel and I want a good night sight. ONe that really looks factory from the sides but has good visibility. I've had Trijicons on my Glocks and they are very bright. But the Trijicon's for the SP look like you can see the green from both ends. So you and the person you are pointing at sees it? Then I looked at the Meprolight. I have them on a Kimber. But want to see what they look like on the SP. ANy suggestions on the best sight out there? PICTURES PLEASE! THanks.:D

I had an XS Sights Big Dot Tritium front sight installed on my 3 inch SP101 and it works pretty well, but a gain in speed of acquisition is offset by a loss of precision. Maybe it would work better if it were matched with the XS rear express sight.

First tried paint, then fiber optic and ended up putting a Meprolite on a 2" SP101. Normally shoot Sigs with night sights so this looks very normal to me. Do not have a good picture of it but very happy with it. Not too big or too small, looks almost factory. Comes un-drilled and must be drilled to fit roll pin.

Perfect. Good info. I noticed in the pictures I have seen of the Mepro that it didn't look drilled.

Does anyone have the Trijicon front sight to speak of?

Thanks for the help guys.

Have you thought about a CTC lasergrip?

I have been putting these on small revolvers, including a 3 inch SP101 and J-Frames. I like them better than night sights for this application.

I have the Trijicons on the SP101 I just purchased. You can not see the green dot from the bad guys view. With that said, the dot is very small from the shooters side. It's about half the size as the sights on both my Glocks.

I thought about the laser grip. But have never really been a fan of them. I prefer to use a Hogue Grip is possible on any of my handguns. I like the feel and control this grip gives. I guess the Meprolight is the one to go with. I will have to just wait to see.

2FNSLO- can you put a picture up of your Trijicons? Thanks.

I have the Meprolight tritium front on my snubby SP101. It's OK.

The dot is definitely smaller than the dots on most tritium fronts for semi-auto pistols. But it is still of some benefit in finding your sight picture in low light.

Because the tritium front sight is taller than the factory front, it made my SP101's sight picture less precise. Kind of a drag. The revolvers can be quite accurate, and the factory sight picture on the SP101 is perhaps the best of any factory snubby. I could square off the top of the front sight in the rear trough and be dead on for elevation with 140-158 grain ammo. In contrast, with the Meprolight front, I have to "hold over" the rear trough to some degree or it will shoot low.

That is no problem in fast, coarse defensive shooting at 7 yds, which, to be fair, is what a short barreled DAO revolver is meant for. But it makes it harder to get good hits at 15-25 yards. I'd like to be able to use my little SP101 as more of an all-around outdoors handgun. Thus, I sometimes weigh ditching the Meprolight and putting the factory front sight back on.

Short version of above post: The Mepro has a small but visible dot. Pro: Increased low light sight visibility. Con: Sacrifices precision compared to factory sight picture.
