Hawaii Ammo!

Do any of the major handloading outfits ship to Hawaii?

It is time.

I know I'm not helping, but I'm honestly curious to know why you can't order online (if you know). Laws? Cost prohibitive?

Just occurs to me that the shops gotta get their supply somehow.

Most places don't want to deal with the logistics and paperwork in having to ship to Hawaii, thanks to our ultra liberal gun laws. You'd have to order a really large quantity then have to come up with the proper paper work and etc, etc.
You don't know how many times me and my friends look at our catalogs we recieve, check out the ammo prices and just :banghead:

Talk to someone from the Hawaii Rifle Assoc., I'm sure they can help you sort this out. I did a lot of shooting in Hawaii in late 70's early 80's and even learned who had smuggled in black powder. Good group of people, check them out.

+1 on the group buy idea. post a note at your range, get as many people as possible to place as large of an order as they can, then do a HUGE mail order. everybody would benifit that way. the only other way would be to hand load.

You can always take up reloading.

I doubt that Magnum will have any better prices, although Young Guns may. Another good possibility is Security Equipment on Young Street and, when they have sales, Sport's Authority on Ward or in Waikele can have some great deals. Unfortunately most shops have pretty competitve pricing and odd calibers are always a problem.
You might want to try Kaneohe Gun Shop again...the hours of operation were abbreviated because the primary owner was doing force protection training for the military in Japan. He just got back, so the store should return to a more "normal" schedule.
Another possibility (especially if your odd caliber gun is older) is the the Hawaii Historic Arms Association, as they may info on sources. A locall FFL, Ready on the Right, is part of the association and could also be useful.

I buy my ammo from Outdoormarksman.com (a.k.a. buyammo.com). They will ship to Hawaii without any problems and you can place the order online. They will ship directly to your door without a freight forwarder or any hassles (takes about a week to arrive via UPS Ground). You can buy as little or as much as you want (no minimum order). Of course UPS ground shipping is expensive BUT I've bought Federal brown box 5.56mm on sale there and the price is competitive if I had bought it locally and had to pay for the sales tax. Good luck.

there is a small gun sub-forum on a local hawaii forum called forumshawaii.net. that whole site sux and is unreliable, plus the posters in that forum are not particularly active, but if you can get it to work, i remember there was like a 3 page thread on how to legally order bulk ammo off the internet and have it shipped to hawaii. I remember it sounded like a pain in the ass, but what isn't these days when it comes to gun laws and paperwork....

This may help but I don't know. IF you handload, you can have the bullets shipped to you via priority flat rate boxes. I sell bullets for handloading and I have sent several packages to Hawaii. No extra charge. The same goes for casings. The primers and powder on the other hand are a different story. If you can get the primers and powder in Hawaii then you can get the casings and bullets for the same prices that we all get them for.

if you need to i'd go to the gun store and ask the owner in person if he could order your caliber you need. If this fails pm me, i'll go through the trouble to get you some ammo down there... but i imagine shipping will be a nightmare (and all i'd do is buy it and ship it for you, i'm no ffl).

Ditto... these "guys" can help. Perhaps the laws in HI are less strict on components than they are with complete ammo...??? IDK
