I was at one of the local gun stores today and they had 3 SKS's on the rack. 2 Romanians for $400 and 1 very nice Russian for $500.

Wth is it with these prices? Maybe its the store but is that what others are going for in "free" states? No wonder they havent been selling.

Anything that either looks like something the current Socialist government will ban or looks useful in urban warfare during the anticipated civil war is selling fast at high prices.

I was going to buy some ammo for mine today at the local gun shop, but it was $10 a box for Silver Bear. I said no thank you. A month ago it was $6 and I thought that was over priced.

Once the panic buys go down, things should get a little better, especially since any idea of a ban was so heavily shot down and not going to be pressed anymore. The gun sellers have made quite a bit of fast cash from the past 4-8 months.

I too bought a para trooper for $200 recently. It's all bubba-ed out, but I guess it's kinda cool to have one all original and then the bubba version.

It's rediculous these prices for a commie gun. I would spend $500 for an AK, but for an SKS, hell no.

Gun shops are making so much money right now, but hey, that's business for ya. If taking advantage of a situation can make you extra money, why not?

my dad who is a big-time gun enthusiast like myself was teilling me that just 8-10 years ago you could go to a gun show and pick one all cosmolined-up out of a crate for $79!

There is a shop by me that sells their sks's now a days for no less than $600 and their AK's are starting at $1100 and their AR's are upwards of $1600 it's unbelieveable. Of course they also want $350 for tattered up mosin nagants and $600 for nice ones...............Theives

I hate going in there but there is just so much to look at!

All prices are way up , All these shootings and killings will drive the demand higher than ever.

I had been looking at getting an SKS, but with all the fearmongering I think I'll pass. I think Limeyfellow is right. While the current administration would probably like to reinstitute an assault weapons ban - my guess is that they have enough on their plate at the moment - hopefully things will settle down - prices will return to pre-fear prices - and I can get my SKS for a reasonable amount. The rifles just aren't worth the 400-600 that some are asking.

I saw an SKS for $600 today. I didn't know Tapco furniture was that valuable.

At those prices, a CMP Garand is a much wiser choice. And the surplus Greek 30.06 ammo is as cheap as the 7.62 Wolf stuff!

I agree, the thing with the commie guns was that they were cheap. Now that they are getting so expensive you're better off getting a garand! I don't own one myself, but some day I will.

As long as we line up, say sure and pay sticker price, then the prices will continue to rise this year and then next? Point is some prices are higher than the 2009 norm (do your research). Learn the difference between what various sellers are charging and walk away from some sellers with 'no thanks.'

Example, at Knob Creek today I looked at a whole lotta of pistols and rifles for sale. Some were priced at market IMHO, and some were much too high for current production or available examples, I've checked many makes in 2009 (milsurp and current production). I won't dicker with someone that I perceive as gouging or pricing ABOVE current retail, and I won't insult them either. Some sellers are working the market/scalping or trying that is attemping to force the market higher. No thanks to some sellers, let the buyer beware, and don't not give in.

Hello Hikingman!:)
How was the show overall?
See any Jungle Carbines, or nice-looking .303 clones (modified from type IVs etc)? If you are going back tomorrow and can get the business card of any sellers, give me a call about any advice.

Took the Mini 14 to blast insurgent grapefruits today at the river.

Yeah I would definitely rather have a Garand over an SKS. The gun show here this weekend has Garands at $800 and Carbines at $900! CA sucks so much.

Got my SKS Chinese 56, $250.00 out the door with
Ram Line folding stock furniture.
It also came with the flat bayonet, the 10 round fixed mag.
(not fixed to the rifle, but we can do so if needed)
and a 30 round mag.
We purchased three more Tapco 20 round mags.
This has been a great weapon and is in excellent shape.
One FTF out of hundreds of rounds.

This was a few months ago and the prices now are double that now or more.
I'm a happy camper. :D
