1911's have better triggers, are generally easier to shoot, more accurate, pack a better punch, and you can adjust the grips to fit you (or, in my case, put on CT lasergrips). An awesome CCW piece, IMO.

BUT--and it's a bit ol' one--if you find that one of the hi-cap 1911s fits you and you can shoot it well, I would recommend in that field; IIRC, STI makes a good model. More ammo in a package only a hair larger.

Or, if you're fixated on a "plastic fantastic", I would recommend you checking out one of the S&W M&P semi-autos--most people I know who've shot one speaks highly of them, my experiences with them have been positive, and their ergonomics were designed to actually fit the human hand!

I'd have to go with the Glock 21sf.

A close second would be a Kimber TLE 5". Leo's up here have to deal with snow and salt everyday so the Glock is the way to go.

Big difference between the 2. You can't go wrong with the Glock. I'd get that, and if you still want a 1911, get it later. (You can't have just one gun!)

Well I did not vote, but what I would suggest is to also check out the M&P .40, I use it as a duty weapon and think it is a pretty nice way to go. The recoil is next to nothing and for me it fits much better than a Glock at least for my hands. Also the interchangeable backstraps are nice. I think the best advice is try a few out and see which one you like the best, there are plenty of the mentioned guns from your list to try before you buy. The one point that I am not sure that has been mentioned was the fact that 1911's can be a little difficult to maintain and takes a little more time and effort to keep clean and operable. Also cost should be an issue for most and keep in mind you will probably want off duty holsters and extra ammo and magazines.
I hope this helps. Good Luck and Be Safe!

Based on my experience as a road officer, Glock is the way to go. I sometimes think about how nice it would be to carry my STI or CQB on my duty belt, but then i think about how many times i have had to jump fences, crawl under fences, crawl under cars (vehicle maintainence), rush into rooms (banging my holster/pistol into everything), direct traffic in the rain and snow, chased people through the woods, etc.. I start thinking that the Glock should probably stay where its at. In my department , we do not get the option of choosing our weapon, they issue us Glock 31s .Everyone has the same ammo and magazines in case you have to cross load.
I do shoot a 1911 better than I do a Glock, but I think the Glock fits in with my job and what I require in a duty weapon. If I had my choice in caliber, it would be 45acp.
As a Police Officer, you never know where your watch will take you. You could be up to your waist in water helping evacuated people from a flood zone, or you could be assist in a multi-agency rescue operation in the middle of God's country.

But , in the end, it is all up to you in what you decide to get. I would recommend shooting several and basing your choice from there.

GODSPEED and 1*

I'd get the Ruger. They're as reliable as a Kalashnikov and practically indestructible. The only drawback is that they're bulky and difficult to conceal, but this is obviously not an issue for an LEO on duty.
