Hello All, I own an older Glock 19, On my last outing I emptied the Mag. and the slide did not stay back. I have been told that it could be a bad spring or a mag follower. Any advise would be welcomed. Thanks

Got another mag?

Try putting a fresh mag spring in.

Also make sure you're not holding down the slide release with one of your thumbs.

Thanks I will, I should have tried one of my buddies mags. His 19 is brand new that would have been a quick eval.

1. If you've detail stripped it, make certain the slide stop spring is installed under the locking block pin.

2. Weak mag spring. Try another mag and replace the spring if it only happens with the one mag.

3. Depending on your grip, you may be riding the slide stop when shooting.

It is easy for me to ride the slide stop too so that may just be it. I just realized the other day every time I shoot my thumb is sitting against it. I haven't had any issues because I don't put pressure on it but I could see where it could cause problems.

You can buy magazine rebuild kits. Check Glockmeister and other Glock suppliers.

Check the number on your mag follower. If it's an old mag, it may be a beat-up #3 or #5. You can replace the followers, but not all followers fit all mags. IIRC, the old #3 followers can only be replaced with #5s. The latest followers for the latest mags (which will work in your gun) are #6 or #7.

Does it happen consistently every time with the same magazine? Every time with *all* your magazines? or just that once?
If it was just once and didn't happen again, I would call it an anomaly, probably caused by your grip. Keep an eye out if it happens again, and mark that magazine.

Why is this even an issue? (other than the fact there's a weak, dirty or broken part in the gun).

Does the slide lock keep the slide back when you manually set it?

If the gun goes "click!"...reload.

If the gun's slide locks back...reload.

Either way, the solution is the same. Don't waste time "diagnosing" the problem while shooting.

Troubleshooting in this order:

* Thumb or finger on slide stop while shooting
* Limp wristing
* Weak ammo
* Weak mag spring
* Something binding, worn, or broken

Thanks Guys. I checked the mag followers and the extraction spring tension I cant figure it out soooooo I think that I will send it out for a new spring kit. No I don't have more money than since. Thanks for the advice

Send it where? Get the springs and do it yourself. It's astoundingly easy to work on glocks.

23glock's right...
Before you get all upset, take it to the range again and see if it does it again, paying careful attention about where you put your thumbs. If the slide won't lock back on an empty mag when hand cycling, it's probably your follower, mag spring, or slide stop lever/spring. All are easily changed. But try a couple other mags first. If they work you know it's something with that one mag.
