Western Bowie Replacement Sheath

Not authentic but a fun project.

Tooling is pretty easy...the actual physical act of tooling that is. It is having the skill to do anything that looks good that is very hard. The Celtic Knot style is all I can do unless I can copy something simple. Traditional Spanish Colonial stuff...like you see on cowboy boots and saddlery..is an art form that takes a long time to learn and I can't do a bit of that.

Celtic-Mexican...that's about right.

Those are screw in Sam Browne buttons that I got at tandy leather...small size. They work great. I use them on more ordinary knife sheathes and on IWB holsers...like the one below. I screw them in tight and secure them with red loctite and they aren't going anywhere. You need to play with the whole that snaps over the stud. I have a rotary punch. The small size stud fits the larges hole perfectly. Then 1 cm down I punch the smalles size on the punch and then cut from hole to hole. I usually remove some material on a bevel on the backside then.
