Hi,

I am loading for both AR15 and bolt action 223 Rem and 308 Win rifles. I never crimped on match grade ammo. using SMK bullets. Now I am going to start loading 55 gr. /223 and 147/ 308 bullets w/ cannelure.

TIA,

ASR

Nope, not necessary to crimp a bullet with a cannelure. Though it will prevent bullet set back when used in an AR. Some will cry bloody murder if you don't crimp for an AR but I haven't had a problem in mine. But that's just me.

Crimping questions will get you a 50/50 response. Half do and half don't.

Neck tension should be all you need. Lots do it this way.
I crimp everything. Lots do it this way.
There is a miniscule effect on accuracy either way. Some claimed better, some claimed worse. Your gun will tell you what it likes.

Sorry, no real help here. :uhoh:

I crimp blasting/plinking ammo. I don't really crimp accuracy minded loads, but have used really light taper crimps on them.
