The licensing division is telling me that they have no record of my renewal application, even though I mailed it February 20. The check has not been cashed. The only place that you can get the forms is from the bureau mailing you one. They say it will take 2 weeks to get a new application to me in the mail, then 2 months to process my application when they finally get it back (again). Since my permit expires in a month, I am screwed.

I knew I should have sent it in certified mail. The woman was kind of rude, like it was my fault that THEY lost my application.

you have 120 days grace period and a $15 (Ithink) late fee. your local leo dept. might have the paperwork. or go to the gunshow and tell the instructors at the show that you only need a packet and pictures. (our guy charges $14) you can also expidite the process by sending certified overnight sig required. that will get the attention it needs and they will push thru. mine was 10 days from date I sent till I got it back. :D

Sending In A Renewal

I intend to send mine in 180 days in advance - due 15 March 2010 - around 15 September 2009, and send it via Priority mail with tracking, so I have a date and a signature when it got to Tallahassee.

Then if the check is not cashed - my wife tracks checking account activity daily - prior to 15 December, I would be on the phone.

We are facing an explosion of new applicatants, so we need to work thru the process. The workers in Tallahassee are being overwhelmed.

OK guys: Help me out here.

My permit is going to expire before I get the new one. So what I need here is a nonresident permit from another state that Florida has reciprocity with. Here are me needs:

- Non resident permit
- Reciprocity with Florida
- State is either close to Florida, or can apply by mail
- Has a shorter wait than Florida currently does

Is there such an animal?

They are WAAAY behind. They were very fast for my original license years ago, but the wife and I had to renew right after the election.

They got hammered with new apps. It took about 60 days for them to return the print cards with a request for address of printing official (Don't get me started on the inconsistencies within their form instructions and on the envelope flap). Then 90 more days to get the cards in.

If you have to renew, send in your papers immediately. It may be quite a wait.

My wife called (takes a while to get thru; lots of busy signals) and asked about hers. The lady noticed it was a renewal and said she would have it done that week since prints were cleared. Got the license 2 weeks later.

The lesson: Do not delay sending in your app or renewal forms. And be prepared to wait a bit.

Godspeed, Florida officials!

From what I hear, they're way backlogged.

What I dont understand is why Florida CHL's go through their Dept of Agriculture. Just seems like an odd agency from which to issue a non-farming related license.

Oh yeah?! Tell that to Commissioner Charles Bronson here in Florida!
:D

Not only is the state running behind, some want to raid the CWP program's trust fund. At last count, I think the legislature wants to take six million out of the eight. :cuss:

I mailed mine in on Feb 8th, and they JUST cashed my check. I would wait another couple of weeks before you panic. I called a week ago and they said that they had no record of it coming in, but then they cashed it, I called and they said that they must have just processed it. They're slow...give them time...

From what I understand Florida only accepts out of state CCW's if you are a resident of that state.

Sorry to know about your application divemedic. I sent in mine earlier this month. When I was at the post office getting postage I went ahead and got it certified thinking that something like that would happen. I don't trust government workers, what can I say. I know they got my application on the 5th at 7:45 am. I have the signature of the receiver in a pdf file. lol Yeah, it's all electronic now, how cool is that. Anyway, at least I know they got it, though of course they can still 'loose' it. I know they are inundated with appls. My CWP trainer said FL did higher over 60 new people to process these appls. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hope you get your situation ironed out and not have to resubmit your appl.

Cannonball888 I already sent in my complaint emails to my legislators regarding the raid on the concealed weapons licensing fees. Guess it's the only area that is actually bringing in money into the state. God Bless the 2nd Amendment.

Lost permit app

Certified mail / return receipt requested - the only way to send anything to a government entity. Costs a bit over $4 and worth every penny.
Just sayin,

I sent my renewal paperwork in on 3/26, I received my new permit on Saturday, 5/16. They must be getting caught up, or somehow I made it to the top of the pile! Must be that handsome picture I sent in...;)

I would bet that the problem lies with the USless postal service not the dept of ag.

Both my kids who live in Florida renewed their permits in March 09. 3 1/2 weeks later they had their new cards.
Can't be too backed up.

Quick

I don't have the exact dates in front of me but my renewal took less than three weeks! I was stunned when it arrived. The renewal notice came in May and my license was good till Sept, so I guess they are just trying to get ahead on them.

They sent mine back saying it wasn't notarized. It was by a local attorney, but I figured they used this as an excuse to delay the application. So, I redid the application and resent it in with a letter. Its been about a month since that and no word.

My Florida renewal took 21 days with a personal check instead of a money order. I got the renewal package 5 months ahead of the expiration, and expected a long wait.
