not a great buy, unless its all you can get--

Academy has Monarch for $5.59/20 and that is high-- but its the cheapest locally--

SOG has cheaper-- I think Barnaul and Yugo ar $5-$6/20----

Keep looking..

$9.99 for Wolf.....?
par for the course, but better than American Eagle, Hotshot, and PMC prices!

Honestly unless you really need it now's the time to back off the ammo purchases until things cool down in a couple months. I don't know where you're at in terms of having enough on hand to keep you happy, but I'd let the prices drop again this summer until I picked up more.

Wolf is $10.99 here. I am not buying it. It has doubled in price in 8 months. Remington $12.99 w brass. Better bullet. I can reuse the brass.

do you think that will come back down to 4-6$ next year :/ ?

A year ago you could buy 7.62x39 for $199-209 usually online, on sale. Maybe $219 or 229 at gun shows. Those where typical prices, every once a while you could find a really good deal online. Wolf had a price increase 4/14, your local dealers are likely to increase some if their current stock is at old prices. It's expensive compaired to year ago, but its a pretty large rifle round for its price, its cheaper than anything except 5.45 or 22lr still. I wonder if the people that were used to paying $69/1k years ago desided they would't pay $89/1k when it went up or if they just desided to wait until it fell back down to $69 per thousand . Hard to predict the future, I have Wolf on backorder from some vendors that "presale" their orders and its not expected to get here until Dec. If I understand correctly if a large dealer or distributor that ordered directly from wolf ordered today put in a new order you would be talking well into 2010 for delievery. If there is a large decrease in demand I could see dealers trying to dump it at cost. The dealers that are nice and don't gouge cumstomers and typically don't have anything in stock as a result have been getting $269-305 lately when they get it.

I saw 7.62x39 for $9.99 a box at a local shop. I remember when I got it for $2.99 !!!!!!!

I went out of town to another gun shop. They wanted $14.99 a box.
Went to another gun shop and they had it priced at $7.99 a box.

Its crazy !

I recently sold some 7.62 since I don't have anything in that caliber anymore. Anyways the price tag was for $1.99 for 20 rds. Sold it at a show for 6.99 a box not bad. If you really want to get mad about ammo prices go price .380 ammo. And yes the price will come down, when people stop hording the stuff and give the suppliers time to catch up. All of my wholesalers are getting very limited amounts of "assault" and self defense ammo. So I just put it on back order let it trickle in. FYI buy your hunting ammo now if you deer, dove, or whatever hunt. Since the focus has been on self defense ammo, they aren't making as much .270, .30-06, and such.

Considering thats twice the highest amount I've paid to date fopr such ammo, no, I wouldn't consider it a steal. Even with the inflated prices of recent days, its still a good 3 bucks higher than I can buy Silver Bear for locally, and I perfer that ammo over Wolf

ridiculous pricing. Good thing we're supplying our afghan "allies" overseas...what? The taliban was found with our ammo? They must have...stolen it or something...

Not exactly, if you read the whole thread.

I also ordered a case of 7.62x39 from sportsman's guide a month or so ago at at a decent price, and now I just got an e-mail that it was backordered until August, and now it has been pushed back to September, good luck.

Ahh...my bad. I got that link in an email from a friend and just assumed it was valid. Sorry if I mislead anyone.

ridiculous. Scour the forums. I got some from here at THR and there's some popping up 2x week on carolinashooters.

I'm sure it's the same at all regional boards.

You can occasionally find fair, if not great, deals on auctionarms or gunbroker.

Like meef said, be sure to work it out per round (including shipping) to get the best deal. If you can find 200 rds for $.33/per but you want to buy 1K at $.38/per, the bulk buy may be better for you personally.

What do you do with 20 rounds of x39? The only time I ever bought less than a case was the day I picked up my SKS. Went back the next day to a smiling gun shop owner and grabbed a case (made me smile too). IIRC, it was $80 out the door for 1000 rounds then. Do THAT math!
