Tote Bag for Concealed Handguns

I don't think that maxpedition ever made holsters specifically, but they have a huge selection of bags designed to carry pistols.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tote bag", but Galco has a line of hand bags that are designed for concealed carry -

When the family was younger; there were four children, I had a big GMC conversation van. As many will note there is not an abundance of places to conceal a weapon, everything else but not gun. So, I used a dust cover that was made to fit a Bible. It was some sort of heavy cloth material, kinda like canvas with a light blue cross stitched to it. The cover had a good zipper (big teeth and fly) that worked real well. It laid in the floor between the seats and looked like, you guessed it a Bible. Nobody even especially a low life scum bag wants to steal a Bible. It was always in reach and could be picked up and carried in and out without the slighest suspect of its true purpose. Worked for me for a long time. Kids are gone, moved away, no longer have the van, but still have the cover laying around somewhere.

I really like the maxpedition bags, but I think that they scream "gun!" even to the untrained eye. I am looking into getting one of these messenger bags from Blackhawk:

Much less obvious and blends in with the local students/hipsters who all have laptop bags.

I have a leather shoulder bag that I have carried since I was in college. It has an inside pocket perfect for a large frame auto pistol and I carry my M659 in it. "Off body carry" has its disadvantages but it does allow for packing a serious handgun comfortably in warm, humid weather when concealment clothing is a real problem.

While I have three possible methods of "off-body" carry of my pistol, I have this nagging fear of getting up from a lunch table, etc and leaving my carry bag behind. For that reason, I restrict the carry bag to my BUG purpose. At all other times, I carry on my body.

My wife and I both carry a Maxpedition Fatboy with a 5.11 holster. I am very impressed with their quality and the options that are available. At first some people made fun of my "man bag." But I am not one to be overly concerned with the opinions of others. They got used to seeing me with it and haven't heard any comments in quite a while.

Over time I got used to carrying it, and found it SO much more convenient than a holster. Gun, mags, light, knife, multi-tool, notepad, pen, handcuffs, key. And because I am a new father... two diapers, wipes, bottle, plug (pacifier), and formula packets. It's a diaper bag.

If you are concerned about the opinions of others or style (not meant as a bash, just a statement) then it is not really the best way to go. If you are more concerned with utility, durability, and convenience... the Maxpedition packs are pretty hard to beat. www.lapolicegear.com has them for a good price.

Where I live they don't really scream "gun" either... okay, maybe a little. But I have seen several non-firearm types carrying them. If you read the online reviews you will notice that only about half of the people use them for firearms carry.

Maxpedition all the way. I have their Jumbo Versipack that's been through urban hell and back and can attest to it's durability and thoughtful design. Also, access to it's hidden gun pocket is absolutely slick. Just make sure that you order the Velcro gun holder with it. Btw, if you get it in black, it looks like any other bag from afar.

I use my Maxpedition for carry when I hike, and I've been asked multiple times 'Are you a photographer?' Yeah, about the worst one ever! So far no one has commented about my gun bag, but I've been eyed a few times.
