Hi all,

I'm interested in scoping my S&W 22A handgun. I have looked through a variety of red dot scopes but the problem I have with them is that the "dot" ends up being more like a small irregular blob, and that annoys me plus it can't be good for accuracy. I previously thought it was my strained and possibly weakening eyes but a gentleman at a gun shop today told me most cheaper red dots are this way because of the way the laser is projected on the lens. Has any ones else experiences this? Is it a pipe dream to expect a cheap(er) red dot scope to have a sharp, defined "dot?" Are holographic sites better with regards to this issue?

Anyhow, I would like to scope my little 22 pistol and I have been looking at traditional handgun scopes, but the usual pistol scopes are 9" - 12" long. At that length, the front and back of the scope will hang over the ends of my gun and I really don't prefer that for a number of reasons.

Has anyone run across a compact/short pistol scope that would look in proportion to my handgun? I really prefer something 28 to 32 MM in diameter (versus the little 1x20 scopes). At least 2 power magnification and preferably 2x6 would be great.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Perhaps, however is the "blob" more elliptical in shape than round? If so, the most common reason is astigmatism.

I have astigmatism, and all red dots appear as elliptical "dots." Fortunately, when I dial a smaller size, it appears rounder to me.

All that said, an Ultra Dot is a nice solution, but I'm satisfied with this one, though I think that it's larger than you want (the one inch shade in the front screws off):
