What would you do? (AKA, would you worry USPS lost the letter?)

But, after hearing your tale, I would think that if I'm going to send that amount of cash, perhaps a cashiers check from a bank, and a FEDEX or UPS 2 day letter might be worth the $20 or so.
You are hearing the tale of one person out of millions daily.

You are hearing the tale of .cheese. (the man who waited until Mr. Murphy had a prime opportunity to screw with him).

I've done hundreds of deals via the US Mail, and never had an issue. I suspect if .cheese. had been patient, his letter would have arrived today w/o any of the associated drama.

.cheese. placed himself in a tight spot (time wise), which amplified the slight delay into a major issue for him.

Yeah, I have to rethink how to do these in the future. I've sent many money orders over the years, but never that much money worth at one time. Almost all the money orders I use are for ammunition or gun supplies.

I'm going to rethink how to pay for my guns and related supplies in the future though. I pay for guns cash usually, so to buy these guns via money orders seemed to be a good idea at the time. I didn't anticipate that it would go missing. To be honest though, what are the chances of this happening again? It's never happened before with me to be fair.

The worst part about the whole thing was thinking that they were gone and not knowing why. Did somebody steal it? Did it get lost? Did I mess up somehow and I don't know what my mistake was but it resulted in the letter getting stuck at a processing center? These were the questions going through my mind for the last week. It could have been rectified with time, but I was not looking forward to it.

So, now with this over, how do you guys pay for guns that are from out of state FFLs? Or for guns from out of state non-FFLs? Check? Credit? I was trying to also keep my bank out of the whole thing so they didn't freeze my card for it being a large purchase at a gun store. Seems that any purchase over $100 at a gun store freezes my account until I verify it. $100 at Best Buy or some other store doesn't trigger a freeze though. I don't know if they freeze it based on a large purchase at a gun store, or just a large purchase at a mom and pop type store in general.

True. Ultimately though the idea of having to wait 2 months to get new money orders was more of an issue for me than shipping the guns to a different state. However, I'll admit that it did weigh on my mind and that I did put myself in that position.

I suspect if .cheese. had been patient, his letter would have arrived today w/o any of the associated drama.

Haven't a clue. Would it have arrived on its own if I hadn't gotten on the phone with USPS is something I'll just never know. I'd like to think it would, but I just don't know for sure. This really comes down to the title. What would you have done? Would you have waited, or called USPS? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm really asking.

duh

First off, if you are going to send any kind of serious money through USPS; send it Registered.......

Everyone that touches it has to sign for it. That is not true for certified mail.

Registered mail is sent through Special bags for Registered items.
