i've been looking for a pocket pistol, and really had myself convinced that i would get a kahr. suddenly, everywhere i look, it seems that there are sporadic problems with their lighter models. the next choices on my list are the small kel-tec 9's. any negative thoughts besides asthetics? have any larger folk found these impractical for pocket carry (i'm over 6' at 230lbs). i have put the p-11 in my pocket and it is a definetly noticable bulge, am i kidding myself with my desire to retain the 9mm platform?

as a little background i already carry a smith 39-2, which i really like. it fits my hand, and points perfectly for me. what i have problems with is summer concealment and sweat. i do a lot of outdoor work in the summer, mostly in a tee and shorts, pocket carry seems to be my only option. everything i have read shows the kt's as being very reliable. as sweat is unavoidable, what finish and holster are better for corrosion control? any other concerns?

i would prefer the opinions of those with actual experience, thanks.

g2, PF-9 is a great little pistol! Wife and I have a matching set. :D I wanted to stick with a 9mm as well this one works great in the front pocket with a Uncle Mikes holsters. There are a couple kydex pocket holsters as well, but I can not justify buying another pocket holster. Ours have been reliable, my wife had a little trouble limp wristing 147gr JHP rounds at first. I switched her to 124gr and all is good. IMHO, you can't go wrong with the PF-9, just as concealable as a 380 with full 9mm power. So why would I stop you from buying one? :D

For a hundred bucks more, find a nice Seecamp LWS32 and you'll be a HAPPY man. IMHO, best pocket-carried BUG on the market!

I carry a Kel-tec pf-9 everyday in my right front pocket. It is a good concelable gun in the proper pocket holster.

I would like to get a lead on the place where I can buy a Seecamp LWS32 for $400. I will buy one...or two. Comparing the .32ACP spitting Seecamp LWS32 with a 9mm launching Kel-Tec PF-9 is somewhat of a non sequitur. The Seecamp LWS32 makes a fantastic BUG, but the PF-9 makes a terrific primary and/or BUG. I have one of the latest iterations (metal magazine release, etc.) and it has been flawless, right out of the box with only a normal cleaning and lubing. Shoots anything I feed it (even ran one magazine of 147 grain rounds with no issues other than a sore hand). It's accurate. It does kick like a soccer star. It's extremely light (lighter than any other 9mm handgun extant). It's very thin (I think it's thinner than any other 9mm). I most often carry it in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. I strapped a Crimson Trace laser on it and feel 100% confident in carrying it as my primary and/or as my sole firearm. I've been very pleased with the weapon.

In my pocket, I have a hard time getting away with a 9mm... I generally feel better with a Smith and Wesson J-Frame 38, or a Kel Tec P32. I do have a Glock 26 that I love and would recommend to anyone looking for a small 9mm, but it sits better inside the waistband. I have no experience with Kel Tec 9mm pistols, but if they are anything like my P32's, they will serve you well.

Ha ha!

Seriously, what you're saying is pay more for a gun with a much weaker round?

Go with the pf9. Any pocket gun is shoot little carry lot as they can't stand up to constant use, but the keltec has lifetime warrenty if it does break down on you. I know a guy who purposely tried to break his, and it's going on 6000 rounds.

I carry a P3AT in my front pocket daily. It has been reliable and suprisingly accurate at the 20 ft range. The crimson trace is easy to set up and actually makes it look more like a square in my pocket. My dad has the ruger lcp and it is nice also, but Kel-Tec customer service is exemplary. Everyone who lives in a warm climate needs one!

Don't own one but they get WAY too much bad press. Gonna trust your life on a pistol that works SOMETIMES? Warranty doesn't mean much if it breaks when you need it. Get a J frame.

Seecamp worth every dollar.Sold all my kt' s never looked back .I LIKE the feel of STEEL.:D

I'm about your size and I can carry my PF9 easily in my front pocket. Not great for jeans, but it still works OK.

Mine has been flawless, no problems whatsover.

Get one, shoot the heck out of it at the range until you trust it and you're GTG.

I have the p11 and have found it to be very reliable. I don't like pocket carry so I carry mine with the clip that attaches to the frame pins. I never notice its weight or thickness. I wouldn't hesitate to get the pf9 though, folks who carry them seem to love them.

No need to stop you from doing anything! It's a great gun.

You inferred the Kahr PM9... My GFF carries one and I've shot it quite a bit.

Both are excellent weapons.

Buy it/Shoot it/Carry it with confidence!

Look at the Ruger LCP. They cost the same as a P3AT and look a lot better. That is if you will go .380 instead of 9mm.

I have owned the Ruger LCP and the P3AT. Both work well for Concealed Carry. However, the Ruger is of higher quality imo. I heard a lot of negative things about the P3AT but never actually experienced a problem myself. A hammerless snub nose revolver is a great option for pocket carry as well.

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. You get what you pay for, and when it comes to protecting my life, I want the absolute best.

If I were a police officer, if I were a combat soldier, if I lived in the inner city, or if I were a drug dealer, I would buy into your "caliber" argument.

But for walking around Daytona beach with my bermuda shorts and flipflops, I'll feel VERY comfortable and well-armed with my Seecamp on anyday.

Had, and sold a P11, and a P32. The P11 was to thick, for what is was, another 200 dollars gets you a G26 which will last a lifetime. The P32 was a great pocket gun, but it shot 8" low at 25', and never warmed up to it. The triggers are awefull, they are butt ugly, but they both shot 100% flawless for me. I like to shoot my carry guns, alot, and the P11 was wearing baddly, I removed burrs from under the slide all the time. If you decide on a gun that size, you would be better off with a G26, which is very close in size. I prefer carry guns with a full grip, and thats why the KTs are gone. The PF9 looks like what I'd go for, in a kydex or horsehide IWB holster:)
