Free Float vs. 2 piece rails to host Eotech optic

If you are set on mounting your EOTech on the handguard, a solid free float tube is going to be your best option. Floating the barrel will make the rifle more accurate, and a rigid free float tube will be more stable than Midwest's two-piece handguard, which will wiggle just a bit like plastic handguards.

OK, let's get some perspective here.

Free Float tube removes any unwanted pressure from the barrel and will improve long range shooting accuracy.

EOTech Holographic optics are primarily used for close range shooting where sub-moa accuracy is not important.

A 'little wiggle' in a 2-piece handguard with an EOtech mounted is not going to make any significant difference in COM accuracy for close quarters shooting.

DO you want long range accuracy, for which you need a different scoped optic, or COM (+8") accuracy for close quarters shooting, for which the Eotech is ideal?

The DD Omega is 2 piece and free floating. I've had one since right after they were released and I'm very happy with it.

If you want to keep your shots under 75 yards, you wil be wasting your money free-floating a rifle. This is something well-within an EOtech or any other good red dot system's range.

I've used EOtechs to aim & hit targets out to 200 yards while on the move. Standard 5.56NATO ball & green tips.

I think I'm looking at no longer than ~75 yard shots, possibly at steel plates, which I understand fall within the EoTech's tolerances.

Then you really do not need a free float handguard. Minor variations in pressure on the barrel, or 'slight' movement in a less solid 2-piece handguard is not going to impact your accuracy significantly through an Eotech out to 75 yds.
You will not be bulls-eye moa accurate, but you should be able to keep your shots within an 8" circle with relative ease.

I just bought one yesterday and installed it on my POF and it's a 3 piece (free-floating). Maybe the gas piston kits come that way. Anyway, the rail is excellent, very light at 8oz and incredibly rigid with no movement at all.
