What kind of 22 ammunition are you looking for?

Cheapest place is usually Walmart. It still sells out rather quickly when a shipment comes in. So you often have to settle for paying higher prices at gunshops or other stores. Kamart has been carrying Remington Golden Bullet bulk packs of late also. Priced a little high, but not absorbent.

I rarely buy bulk packs any more. I prefer my 22 ammo in 50 or 100 ct boxes. I have maybe 5 or 6 bulk packs in my stash, but it is by far in the minority of what is there by volume.

Take a look at Kmart if there is one around you. They will have them priced a bit above Walmart but not out of sight. Dicks Sporting Goods also is worth a look. They usually stock bulk packs, Remie Thunderbolts, and sometimes Federal Champion 714's.

Found some Federal bulk pack at the Walmart in Celina Ohio yesterday. 13.97. The sweet thing working the counter said it's rare to have any in stock lately. I didn't really need any but I grabbed some anyway. The ammo, not the girl.:D

Kind of Disappointed ...no selection, no ammo

I bought my first 3 guns (pistols) back in Nov 08' and a HD shotgun in March. I started comming here about a month ago and have learned quite abit.

I would be in the market for a couple more pistols except I can't find a gun shop that has any selection, even Cabela's, on a consistent basis. Never mind that there is almost no ammo to be had in my area. In the last 7 weeks all I could find was 2 bricks of 22 LR and 2 boxes of 32 cal. No 45 long colt and I have not seen any 380, 9mm and just 2 boxes of 45 ACP. I have resorted to calling my local Wal-Mart(s) and Dick's a few times a week to see if they got in any ammo (usually no). Cabela's is 35 min's away and in a different direction than I usually travel. I was their last week and the ammo selction was real bad and while the pistol selection was not bad it wasn't good either. They seem to be bringing in some off brands to make up the difference. Luckily, there is plenty of shot gun ammo for me to shoot trap with and Federal has been on sale at Wally World.

One can only spend so much time looking for guns and ammo and when there is little to find and compare its hard.

I'm just disappointed that I picked the current market to get interested in guns. 9 months ago the situation was quite different but I was really a newbie then ;).

Ah well, this too will pass.......

Too bad you didnt buy a .40 S&W...seems like this ammo is quite available as of now (at least where I buy from). For this reason, my next purchase will more than likely be based on the .40 S&W platform.

The Orschelin by me usually has the 525 pack of Remington Golden Bullets... for I think it was around $35, but can't find the receipt

all I could find was 2 bricks of 22 LR

Oh please, please tell me where this is. I haven't seen a 'brick' in months.

I got all excited last weekend when I spied some 22 50rd packs at WalMart. After waiting for the counter guy to get off his 45 minute lunch and open the case, it turned out to be Remington shorts. Grr.

Got a 22 yet?

I really don't want to lengthen this debate, but you're once again wrong. My manual orders are not checked or changed by some automated system in Bentonville. If I take the time to manually order 6 tons of cabbage because I believe that my store needs and can sell it, then I will get it, assuming it is available ( and yes this exact situation happened after someone made a mistake in entering numbers on the manual order system). This is considered and managers discretion and overrides the system. You going to Bentonville means absolutely nothing in terms of knowing how the company works. Guess what, just because my father in law works for an engineering company and I've been to the plant doesn't mean that I know the first dang thing about how to actually do the work. If saying that because you've been to arkansas and you know several people who have worked for the company, that you know the particular in and outs of the company's operations, then that means that because I've been to the White House and know several politicians, I know how to run the country. Get real. The fact that you think you know more through second hand information than I do is idiotic.

Cabellas

Turkey Creek, West Knoxville, Farragut area.

Awash in rifle ammo. Iv'e never seen so much .223 in one place in a looong time. Remington, Black Hills, Hornady VMax, you name it, it was there.

Not a great deal of .38 spl yet. Counter guy says by fall barring nothing happening handgun and reloading supplies should be to "normal".

No .380, no primers.

I call BS

On the whole ammo shortage. Stores I know are just not getting any ammo. I was even on the news showing the "shipment" as it arrived of ammo which was half a shopping cart. How is it that everyone is buying up the ammo if the shipments are nothing to begin with?

Sportsmans Wharehouse
Walmart
Randalls

^ stores I know personally that have told me they are recieving nothing.

It's not us. We aren't buying up the ammo. I can't put my finger on why, but ask yourself this: When is the last time you hoarded?

My wife works at Wally World and I've had her on alert for ammo. Myself also makes plenty of rounds thru that dept.... none to be found. I can't imagine the 7 o'clock crew waiting to scoop up all the ammo, especially since they now have that 2 box limit. They're just not getting any. I call BS on hoarding too!
kid
PS. My other gun shops have all the ammo I could want. That's pistol calibers too!
Prices are high, but lots to be had.

Less consumer level ammo being made + hording = shortage.

Relax, it's turning around and everything should be ok.

Now, how long till this is merged with the GIANT ammo shortage thread? lol

Quick comments! :)

I'm not trying to start conspiracy theories. I really am frustrated that buyers are being targeted as the source of the drought.

Wanted to co-misserate I guess.

With Sportsmans they told me it's to do with their financial state, and can't buy period.

I was in Cabela's in Dundee, MI last Thursday. The shelved were fully stocked with ALL reloading supplies. I bought a pound of IMR-4064, a pound of Varget, various .308 bullets, and some .243 brass. Yes, they had primers too. If Cabela's can get this stuff, why can't my local Sportsmans Warehouse? I agree that our current shortage is BS.

I have been having good luck at wally world lately for .22 lr, .223, .308, and 12 GA. Much better then the past 6 months. I often walkout with my 6 box limit no problem. Pistol calibers require a trip to a gun store half the time but that's ok because I enjoy the gun store.

Perhaps your sporting goods department has lousy/lazy management. I counted over 1000 boxes of Wolf .223 on the shelf at the local Fleet Farm when 1 month ago I couldn't find any .223. My AR loves Wolf .223. Not the most accurate but very reliable!

Two Wal-Marts in my city

and they both have Fed bulk packs about 50% of my visits. It is not hard to find .22 ammo in my area. Scheels has American Eagle (?) bricks right now for just under $18.

I saw some Century 22lr in I think 1250 rnds a box for 20 bucks today.
I've been looking on line and can't find it, anybody know of this ammo or was I dreaming?

Sounds like a good deal but I don't know anything about this stuff.
