Without wanting to turn this into a political thread: I, for the love of God, can't imagine why any person n his right mind would choose to stay and live in that hellhole, let alone fly thousands of miles to go there and watch that silly ball game...

Guys, you're reading a British newspaper and inferring that SA is a "hellhole". That's not fair.

Sure, we have a high level of crime. But that doesn't make this a hellhole. We have the same number of murders a year as you guys do. You have six times more people. Work it out.

We have challenges. And we're fighting some damn crazy gun laws. That's all true.

On the other hand we have damnfine beaches with very topless girls and we make bloody good wine and the food's great if you can afford it... but anywayz. We now return you to your regular programming.

There's nothing in the article most people don't know, I guess: things are turning really sour in SA, Zimbabwe-style. Soaring crime rates, crippled justice system and a corrupt government that would like to see every white farmer leave rather yesterday than today. Still, this country was chosen to host the 2010 world cup...

Edit: Koos, hats off to the well-meaning South-Africans, be they black or white, but you can't deny there's a deeper cause for concern when the Security and Defense minister of a country tells a minority of the population to grin and bear it or get out.

Hehe. Don't worry, I've been involved in the fight for a while. It's all propaganda. We're on the knife edge at the moment, the next year or two will tell. Couple of court cases coming up, problem is the government fights with tax money and we fight with tithes... but things are going to get interesting if we can get enough people to chip in.

Go check www.gunownerssa.org, lots of interesting stuff there.
