The comment below is why I don't allow the general public to comment on videos on my Youtube channel:

TexWhatever has posted a comment on your profile:
HHAHAHA funny how you have a clip that puts the argument 'gun control does NOT reduce crime' then disable ALL comments so you can't be PROVEN wrong (and i WOULD prove you wrong :D)

therefore your argument is a mountain of horse****!! :D - FAIL!

Sorry folks, there is no Freedom of Speech on my Youtube channel. I'm the dictator, and I allow only certain comments to post on my profile page only.

I guess I would agree with blocking all of the harassing comments but I would definately allow comments like the one in the OP because people like that need to be put in their place.
Blocking comment like that make you look like you are cowardly hiding behind your "dictatorship". Step up and throw facts in his face, dont just ignore it.

You have a good point. However, I've been there before. I try to get into a civil debate with this type of person (the type that issues profanity right off the bat). The other side is set and not listening. They get belligerent from the word go. My pressure goes up. Nothing gets accomplished, except time being taken from my life. I'd like to show 5 star videos and lots of subscribers, rather than argue with a rude stranger on the Internet. All the anti-gun people have equal opportunity to vote on my videos.

ask the citizens of the city of chicago if it works.

i could be wrong, but i think the american cities that have the stiffest gun control, without fail, have the highest violent crime rates.

likewise, the most firearm friendly regions are far safer.

Does Gun Control Reduce Crime?

No.

Even bad people calculate costs.
Bad guys rob convenience stores because they know they are (generally) unarmed. Bad guys do not rob gun stores nor do they burgle police stations, because of the risk to them. Nazi Germany did not invade Switzerland largely because the Nazis did not want to invest a lot of machinery and manpower to subjugate a nation whose civilians were armed. Also look what happened in Turkey, known as the Armenian Genocide, and of course China, Russia, Germany, Cambodia, Rwanda, Uganda and Darfur.

170,000,000+ civilians have been murdered by their own governments in the 20th century alone.

Understatement of the year!!! :D Even worse, that number is from 2005!!!!!

Prof. Rummels shocking research is presented in the 500 page book: Death By Government (2006, Transaction Publishers, New Branswick, NJ). The charts and statistics measuring the life taking propensities of state governments were developed from his analysis of 8,200 sources, involved over 4,200 consolidations and calculations, which were organised into appendix tables totaling more than 18,100 rows. Just one appendix table alone amounted to over 50 pages and are provided in a supplementary volume: Statistics of Democide: Estimates, Sources and Calculations on 20th Century Genocide and Mass Murder.

Gun Control = Reduced Crime?

Just shakin' my head.

'Course not.

Jake, I have walked in those shoes.

Sometimes civil discourse is simply not going to happen.

And, of course, once you start, you have to field and handle every stupid assertion and logical fallacy that's thrown your way. And it won't be one guy, it will be a horde of shrillness.

Every so often, I fool myself into believing I can conduct a civil and meaningful exchange of ideas with someone whose entry premise is that I'm ignorant and stupid, thus not worth hearing, and that the proper technique is to hammer and bludgeon until no one responds, at which point they can claim victory.

Oh, well.

There is, frankly, no point in giving shrill, fixed-minded detractors a platform of any kind.

If they want to put their ideas out there, let them start something of their own.

the only thing that has ever been proven about guns and crime is...

they have no effect on each other.

Yeah I think gun control has no effect on crime either way. So you might as well let us have them. Crime is more about economics...

As for the OP, people on youtube don't have a code of ethics like we do so they post whatever they want. Also, being anonymous makes it easier to be an idiot and say things you would never say in public.

But I like Australia! They repealled the anti gun law to restore civility!

Really? I must have missed that one. Can anyone site the source when/where this happened?

I have to agree, but certain crime has been reduced here in in Florida since the approval of the Castle Law and more people have CCW permits. Home invasions, convience store robberies, car jackings and muggings have been greatly reduced. IMO, the shop owners that place a "No Guns" sign are just asking to be robbered, they are telling the bad guy that it is open season to rob his store and should have no fear of being shot.

No.

The only "control" that reduces crime is CRIMINAL control involving incarceration imo.

I lived outside of D.C. for years. High, HIGH crime rate, as a matter of fact, it lead the nation in murders for quite some time. D.C., of course, had heinous gun control laws.

Meanwhile, in my country/suburban neighborhood where EVERYBODY had firearms, and could OPEN CARRY them without anyone batting an eye....wait for it... NO MURDERS. EVER.

That's O.K. though, I am willing to give up my RIGHT to keep and bear arms to accommodate emotional based decisions...no, wait a minute. I'M NOT!

Never will.

My favorite youtube was the one where the guy is reading the brady statement about how guns kill people, then picks up his pistol and ask for help returning it as it must be defective.

It's pointless to get in a discussion with people who refuse to hear.
Let the lemmings drink their coolaid.

I'd leave the comments open. The people who post anti-gun comments on Youtube are often so monumentally stupid and illiterate that you don't even have to argue with them to make them look bad.

LOL, I just finished reading the headlines from the local news, before I came over here and saw this thread.

Latest weekend toll: 11 killed, dozens injured
July 6, 2009 8:22 PM | 125 Comments | UPDATED STORY

The weekend that started violently has ended the same way.

Another four people were slain overnight, Chicago police said this morning.

Before that, seven people had been killed and more than 20 wounded on city streets from Saturday into Sunday -- including an unidentified woman who was found strangled on the 3300 block of West Congress Parkway.

From the start of the holiday weekend midnight Friday until the early hours of this morning there were 63 shootings and one stabbing, according to police sources.

In regards to responding, I'd say. yes let them come. But, and here's the question you answer them with.

Can you demonstrate one time or place, throughout all history, where the average person was made safer by restricting access to handheld weapons?

There are three possible answers to this question.

1. "I don't know." In which case my response is, "Come back to the debate when you can answer 'Yes' or 'No'."
2. "No." In which case my response is, "Then you should be advocating the repeal of ALL gun control laws and I don't want to hear a single anti-freedom word from you on this topic again."
3. "Yes and here is my demonstration."

This isn't my question, I found it here

I like it, as it boils down all the dancing around the issue, all the BS, all the myths, lies, and misinformation that is out there to one simple question. It also lets you answer them quickly without devoting your entire life to entertaining their gun control fantasies.
