So how much would a Bear hunt with a guide (of course) cost me? no particular type or place to hunt. but what would be about the cheapest i am looking at including liscences.

Black,

I have openings for this year for New Mexico Black bear. This hunt runs $3000. License is about $300 I don't have a NM proc in front of me but that' close. This hunt is behind hounds which if you haven't tried chasing a pack of hounds chasing a bear through the rocky's for multiple miles in serious steep terrain you haven't truely lived. It's a serious tough deal!

If you are into an easier (less phyisical) hunt you can go to Canada or Alaska for either spot and stalk or baited hunts if you'll send me an E-mail i can give you some specifics. But your looking at about $3500 minmum for anything decent. then add your licenese and travel on top of that.

If you want to hunt Grizz or brown bear (same critter different habitat) your looking at considerably more.

Anybody give me an idea about the cost in Maine? I may go next year provided I can get the time off. I have a Pedersoli Kodiak in .58 caliber that needs to be blooded.

i am looking into this as a joint graduation gift from my parents and grand parents. so i just wanted to get an idea. i don't graduate till next year, but i thought i should find out to see if i need to save any money on the side to help fund it.

[email protected] is my e-mail if you wouldn't mind sending me more specifics on what all i need to do, besides have the money. to get this thing rolling for probably 2 seasons from now.

yeah i know it's planning a little far in advance but it's a pretty penny, so i think it's a good idea.

Gary.

No but if you send me your double gun I'll blood it for you..;)

Black,

Ok I'll do.

Fly up to Ketchikan and then hop across to Prince Of Wales Island and rent a pick up or a jeep. On a spring hunt (no brush) you can spot a dozen bears a day on the hillsides - take your pick. Rent a forest service cabin or just stay in a local motel.
Fly out to Kuiu island and you may see fifty bears a day, but no roads or jeep rentals or motels out there... Fifty bears sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not, Kuiu is just crawling with them!

That hound hunt in New Mexico sounds like a great deal if you want to hunt with a guide. An Alaska guide would cost quite a bit more than that.

I hunted black bears in the fall on Prince of Wales and we saw bears every day, even with all the brush up. I'll never hunt down there in the fall season again though, the brush is almost impenetrable - second growth after logging. Still, it's unbelievable just how many bears there are down there.

You know.....there seems to be a few thousand people on THR that are frequently in the vecinity of bears. (Or at least concerned about it:) )

Maybe you could hook up with one and just go hiking with 'em. :D

With all the devotion I've seen on this sight to the right weapons for bears and the carry of such, it shouldn't be hard to find. All you'd be out is travel and tags.

:D :neener: :D

i would be up for that. i am from cincinnati and have only come in contact with the bears at the zoo.

though not too far from land i have in kentucky they dump bears that ventured to far into the cities up north so i have seen a couple there. but i would much rather perfer going with someone experienced instead of venturing out without the proper guidence for my first bear hunt.

Go to any State's site via Yahoo or whatever and do a search for their MNR/Fish and Game etc. You'll find a link to the assorted hunting places in that State.

My question is, Why would you want to hunt Bear in the first place?....Do you actually eat these animals?.....and if you don't eat them, then I ask the question again....Why do you hunt them?
I'm not a member of PETA or any other animal rights activist group, I'm just curious.
I'm a true believer of hunting and putting food on the table but hunting bear just seems like nonsense....JMHO.
Thats kinda like Hunting Mountain Lions.....Who wants to eat a Cat?....
I guess if you just want to kill something, to each his own......

Most people compare bear to pork.

In Alaska you are required (in most areas) to take the meat of a black bear. You don't have to take brown/grizzly meat because a high percentage carry trichinosis.

Why would you want to hunt Bear in the first place?....

well i was probably going to make some suasage out of the meat. and i could use a nice bearskin rug in front of the fireplace.

maybe some meat loaf, or steaks

Bear Recipes

i am sure old Nugent has got some recipes in his book too.

you can hunt bear on the mescalero apache res. in new mexico for about $550. its a draw for license hunt but i've been drawn 5 out of 7 times i put in. saddlebum

Hey Black, Try Maine... not as far as New Mexico or Alaska and for a under a $1000. or so says a brochure a friend who hunted there gave me. Take a State hunter safety course before and you may find more places to hunt . I live 2.5 hours from you and am considering a Maine of Georgia bear/boar/deer combo. hunt. Georgia is quite affordable

Guided Hunts in NH w/ dogs

my girlfriends dad is a registered guide in NH. his hunts run around $800 i think for 2 days. license is $108.50 with a bear tag. the hunts are a good time i've been on a few.

This place is in Arkansas. They've got deer, elk, bear and turkey too. Looks like the price list has bear listed at 1500.00 but I think that includes liscense, food, and lodging. You may want to call to confirm this though.

Oops!!! Looks like the hunts are 1500.00 plus liscensing and fees. I dunno what "fees" include. They may want to charge you for every flush of the :what:
