recently i caught myself looking at 9mm's (the way ammo costs are going)
and since 9mm's feel rather tame to me i started thinking that i really could use/am in need of a "pocket" compact.

i'm looking for something in the walther ppk/sig p232 size category, only i want it to shoot 9mm.

what are my options?

my only preferences are a bit old fashion:
  1. i dont care much for polymer
  2. i dont care much for striker fired
  3. DA/SA preferred
  4. must be good looking
i think it goes with out saying at this point but glocks need not apply

I don't know how small they go, but Kahr makes a 9mm with a metal frame. DA. Never seen one in person, as the shops around here only carry the poly ones.

Like you, I am not a fan of polymer. Had a Glock. sold it out of frustration. Going back to steel and alloy frame revolvers and autos. They just "feel right"

thats a bit too small...

if memory serves me right a ppk is about 6.2"L 4.2"H and a p232 is about 6.5"L 4.5"H
both of which feel really good to me, so thats the size range i'd like to stay within if possible (length between 6 and about 6.7 height between 4 and 4.7 ballpark).. if only the 232 were a 9mm.

that there rohrbaugh is wayyyy small

The Springfield EMP is on class act, but if you are not partial to single action then try:

Kahr MK9

Smith & Wesson CS9

The CS9's Big Brother Smith & Wesson 3953

I'm very happy with my PPS (Walther)
Walther also makes the P99 in a compact size
MrsBFD likes her Springfield Armory XD9sc, and it is about the same dimensions as the PPS, except thicker. It also has a lot more round capacity, with the doublestack mag
Kahr makes a nice small 9mm in metal and poly frames, I think
SA makes the EMP, pricey but reported to be very nice
HK P7, if you can find one and a few mags
Rohrbaugh is expensive and tiny
Boberg will someday make a tiny high performance 9mm, maybe
Kel-Tec makes small light 9mm pistols, some love them and some hate them
Taurus makes a 9mm the same size (height/length) as our XD and PPS, but a bit thicker

What you need to do is get to a rental range and find out what's happy in your hand. Also, "pocket-sized" means different things for different people, for me, that XD just barely fits, I went with the PPS for IWB because it is so slim, but it fits a pocket nicely. For you, pocket size, body shape, and hand size might mean only the Rohrbaugh could fit in there and have a decent draw time.

that kahr is a bit square for my taste, and i dont think that trigger would agree with me.

look how sexy these are...

no one makes a 9 like one of these?

maybe i'm just picky but:
sig 239 too big and balanced funny
kahr too glock-like
smith cs9 never seen one in real life
p7 big $$ and no mags
para/springfield a compact 1911 9mm is sacrilege
rohrbaugh small enough to belong on a keychain

CZ75 PCR or P-01?

4.5"x6.5"

1)All metal
2)hammer
3)DA/SA
4)beautiful (of course, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder)

3" barrel, still way more accurate than my fullsize SA 1911.

You might prefer the lines of the PCR:

imagine this;

a post that all the answers were right

---some , the EMP are righter than others, but this ain't an animal farm.

This thread is of great interest to me, since I'm in much the same boat. I'd also like a single stack mag, in addition to southrise's requirements.

Please keep the ideas coming.

Anyone have an executive level connection at Sig?

tell them to make the 232 in 9mm. I'll take 2 and i'm pretty sure the OP would get one too, I've been searching for that gun (or similar) for a long time.

the walther p5c might be worth a look but has all the $$ and mag availability problems of the hk p7

Can't believe no one has said the P64. Its a ppk clone that fires 9x18. Known to be a good, solid firearm. Its what I cc.

if anyone could swing that, you can put me down for 2 as well.

in the mean time i've been trying to convince myself to like the 380 as a primary.. i guess some european police forces think its plenty adequate (been working on my google skills).. perhaps i'll start a new thread to hear from 380 fans.

by the numbers that is an interesting one. although i havent seen one in person (or heard of it till now)... guess i'll be reading up on/trying to find one of these as well

The closest thing you may find is the Walther PP Super, which fires the 9X18 Ultra. Here's one with a regular PP.
