First off...FINALLY got the wife to agree to get her CHL! WooHoo! Now is the problem, can't use reloads on the CHL range, don't want to shoot what little carry ammo I have as I can't replace it right now (out of a job).

Was looking for Winchester White Box or Federal anything under $30/box would be ok, prefer cheaper but I'm in a bind. Must be able to ship to me by the end of the month. I need a min of 3 boxes preferably 4. I have to have min 50 for me and for her for the class (my renewal) but she needs some practice time and she actually asked for it so it's my job to produce.

Any place that I can get some 45acp reasonable?

BTW I live in Round Rock, TX if you have some local that you would part with.

Edit: NOTE: cannot be Blazer (they forbid it for some reason)

Where's Round Rock from Waxahachie? I can at least cover you on some practice stuff before the class. I can check Wally World here and see what they have for your class.

class =====>>>>>(my renewal)<<<====== but she

Are you telling me YOU have to re-qualify every so often IN TEXAS???????
My NYstate permit is good for life --- Granted they want renewalble permits But Were in for life as it is now -!
I always wondered about TEXAS!!! Aint as free as one might think !!!!

Yup, every 5 years for the renewal now. Waxahachie is a couple of hours North of here (Think Austin). Thanks for the offer though, might take you up on it as time gets closer.

I start to look at the carry ammo and the cost of the classes at like $2/shot It's almost as much for the ammo as for the class!

In addition most of my carry stuff is +P and the wife doesn't like the recoil.

Use reloads for practice. I'd help you out, but I only have reloaded or Blazer Brass. Sorry.

Um, why not save the factory ammo and put your reloads in the factory ammo boxes so as not to arouse suspicions during testing?

I think it is a State requirement, not a range requirement, that factory ammunition be used. Trying to be sly and substituting ammo would be unwise. The range officers are pretty vigilant and when you get booted, I doubt you'd get your money back.

Godguns&guitars - Round Rock is just North of Austin on I-35. Walmart in Waxahachie has Winchester white box 9mm for $19.97 for 100 rds. .45 isn't as available, but I have seen it. Check out your Walmart. I think it runs about $32/ 100 rd box. Try them first thing in the morning to beat the daily rush on ammo. They usually sell out by noon in Waxahachie.

I was at an Academy in Conroe last night. They over 100 boxes of 9mm, .38 and .357.

Walmart and Academy have had a lot of ammo lately. Just call the ones close and check.

BTW-What range forbids Blazer?...the Blazer brass is very good ammo....heck, we used the Blazer steel case for the M9s in the army.

Do you have another non 45 gun to use? If you were in DFW area you could have one or two boxes of mine. Try academy and wal-mart as the above poster said. They have ammo.

"by the end of the month"
Sounds like enough time to hit the LGS circut, here most local shops have the common calibers in stock, even if the prices are painful.
If that isn't possible, do you have to pick your CC before the class in TX, or can you shoot anything for the permit? I did my CC class with a .22, but OH doesn't require you to qualify with any particular gun, the license isn't restricted to anything other than handguns in general.

Big Boomer wish I had a way to send some to you; it would only cost you some donuts from Round Rock.

For the unknowing, Round Rock yellow donuts are the best thing to come out of Texas since....since....well, the best thing ever. Melts in your mouth, leaves a pleasant satisfied feeling and a coating of lard on your tongue.

.45 Magtech

Big Boomer,

I'm in Round Rock and have 4 boxes of Magtech .45 cal, 230 gr, FMJ that I can spare for $25/box (50 rnds/ea). This is my cost on it. Let me know if you are interested.

My son's class allowed .22's for the class as well, that's irresponsible behavior from those teaching the class in my opinion. I wouldn't consider anything smaller than a .380 acceptable for a self defense firearm, matter of fact, the class I went through wouldn't accept a lower caliber firearm.

I spoke with a customer a few days ago who had just bought some .45 at the Wal-mart at I-35 and the 45 toll (Home Depot, Pet Smart, etc.). you might call there and check before driving over. If I had some I'd sell it but I've just got reloads.

I have like 2000 rounds loaded and enough primers and bullets to load that much more at least in 45. Same with 38 Super, 44 Special, and 44 mag. I was just offering to let him have some if he needed it.

Check your local Academy stores. They get regular shipments of ammo, but you have to be there when they open if you expect to get the caliber of your choice. You can call them about 30 minutes before they open and they can tell you what they got in the night before.

They had UMC 250rd. bulk packs of .45 last week for $97 on the north side of San Antonio.

Where did I claim I was using a .22 for self-defense?
Target shooting is target shooting, the ONLY reasonable requirement of the CC permitting process is the skill/proficiency requirement, and you can keep your shots on target with a .22 just as well as you can with a .44mag, just faster.
What, do YOU know shooters who can handle accurate rimfire shooting, but somehow go full auto and slaughter everyone in sight with a .380?

I've been reloading 45 so long I don't have any factory except what I carry also. Sorry, because I'm in PVille, and could help you with the reloads. But, you're right, at least it used to be that the state required factory ammo for qualification.

Yeah go with the UMC ammo. If you're shooting a 45, $100 for 250 rounds ain't to bad and if you're wife wants to practice that'll keep you covered.
