Someone has listed a Jennings 9mm in my local classifieds for $100. I have never heard of them, but $100 seems like a good price for any gun. Anyone have any thoughts on these? I'm thinking I should go ahead and buy it for the hellofit.

Good for plinking and target practice. They are in the same quality range as Hi-points. I wouldn't carry it for self-defense. If you look around there might be some for cheaper.

jennings is/was a cheap pistol. if you really want it offer the guy about $25.00 for it. as i recall the jennings did not sell for much more than $100 new if even that much. also have the pistol checked out to make sure it isn't stolen or used in a crime. very common for these pistols

Save your money and pass on it, low cost gun that will most likely have reliability issues.
If you really want to go for extra cheap, look for a Hi Point. They are REALLY ugly but seem to work OK for the most part. And if they do not, they do have a good warranty.

Actually, Hi-point pistols are much better than Jennings.

Jennings firearms are part of the BRYCO, Raven, Jimenez, Lorcin family of junk pistols. These are also known as "Ring of Fire" and "Saturday Night Special" guns.

Made from the same Toolings, the same family would set-up shop and sell their cheap pot-metal pistols under one name until legal troubles made them declare bankruptcy, then they'd sell the Toolings to another family member and set-up shop again under a new name. This has happened several times in several States, which is why these same pistols have so many different names.

Cheap pistols, stay away from them.

I don't think a Jennings would even make a good gift, let alone actually paying money for it.

dude dont buy one my buddy had a 380 jennings and it was starting to crack on the back and we saw a picture of one that was in 9mm that split in pieces

I totally agree the Jennings (now Jimenez) is the single biggest piece of junk ever made, for any price.

BUT

I am sooooo glad they still make them, if I'm ever in a gun fight I like the fact that the other guy might just have one of them instead of a Glock.

I bought one a few years back for 200 bucks and man what a pile of crap that thing was. That being said, for a hundred bucks you cant really complain. It would be ok for situations where you know it might get damaged or ruffed up.

don't count on it to save your life though. About 1 failure per two mags was my average.

I personally had a Jennings J22 and 2 Jimenez (the latest incarnation of Jennings) JA22s-- all were ok once you could get them to fire. I won't make fun of any gun someone buys, but don't expect much from a Jennings-- Save your $100 and get a High Point if you want a cheap gun-- they are ugly, but work-- or save your money and get something better--

You usually get exactly what you pay for...

...if you looking for a inexpensive gun...

I'm not looking for an inexpensive gun. My logic was "obscure handgun for $100". To quell a few of your guy's fears; I've decided not to buy it. There's a gunshow coming up in my area in Sept. and my monies are better spent there.

Seeing as I brought it up I might as well do a plug for it.

I have a friend with two of 380's. I call them 4-5 shot guns. One will always jam with a full mag and almost never load the last round (4 shot). The other one will sometimes fire 5 rounds without jamming (5 shot). Pure junk, they are also no fun to shoot, too small. Hi Point has a 9mm you can buy for about $150-$160. They are absoulty reliable good range or home defense gun with a lifetime warranty. Not too good for carry because they are pretty heavy.

Be sure to get some Kevlar gloves to shoot it with, so when it blows up you'll minimize your injuries.

Might be OK for a gun to hide under the workbench in your garage, for Emergency Use Only. Might need something to throw at a dog crapping in your yard!

I did a search on it a while ago because a coworker took it when we went shooting. I can land over 98% of my shots using my XD and Glock 34, but only one bullet within 40 feet. Well, the search came out that Jenning was outlawed by the state of California, because it fell apart during a test fire. Jenning gun is only good for "Cash for gun" deal.
Please let this one go. Save up your money for a better gun or something else.

You really need to spend more time reading this forum. Aside from beef jerkey, what 'deals' are you expecting to get from a gun show unless you know a lot about firearms, quality & value? -If you need to ask about a $100 Jennings, my recommendation is that you keep your money in your pockets.

I would pass and save up for something of a bit higher quality. There are better choices than Jennings and it wouldn't cost you a whole lot more money.

That model goes for more like $160 new. I would save for a new one if that's what you want because your going to need that lifetime warranty.

I own a few SNS's but the 9mm model seems to be problematic while the .22 model seems to work fine for the most part.

From someone that has had a Jennings for a long time, I can tell you this about MY Jennings.

I have a Model 48, the larger of the two 380's. I have put a couple thousand rds thru it, and have had one problem. I fired two mags of HI-Vel and the slide cracked. I called Jennings and got a replacement for $20. I still have it, and it still shoots. Not to bad for a $70 pistol(at the time).

I would still not recomend buying one. My experience seems to be odd with these guns.

A Hi-Point is a MUCH better value.
